BREAKING: APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje suspended from party

The suspension arises from allegations of bribery directed at Ganduje by the Kano State Government.

Ganduje [Facebook]

The ward’s legal adviser, Halliru Gwanzo, revealed this during a press conference in Kano.
The suspension stems from accusations of bribery against Ganduje by the Kano State Government.

As quoted by Leadership, Gwanzo said, “We decided to suspend Dr Ganduje from the party due to the seriousness of the allegations against him.”
According to the party ward leaders, the suspension will commence on Monday, April 15, 2024, and remain in effect until the former state governor resolves the allegations against him.

This development raises uncertainties about the leadership within the APC and may have broader ramifications for Nigerian politics as the 2027 elections approach.

The APC national chairman has not yet commented on the suspension.
Ganduje told to resign as APC chairman
Earlier, Pulse reported that there are calls for Ganduje’s resignation as national chairman of the APC.
A chieftain of the party, Dr Salihu Lukman urged Ganduje to either align with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for advancing Nigerian democracy or step down from his position.

He said, “Under your watch, you are unable to regulate the excessive conduct of some leaders. Consequently, leadership crisis is snowballing in many states with hardly any visible indication of efforts from your leadership to intervene and resolve the issues.”

Ganduje’s bribery allegations
Meanwhile, the Kano State Government has taken legal action against Abdullahi Ganduje, the former governor, accusing him of accepting bribes totalling $413,000 and ₦1.38 billion.

His wife Hafsat and son Umar are also included as co-defendants in the charge sheet dated April 3, 2024.
Others named in the charge sheet are Jibrilla Muhammad, Lamash Properties Ltd, Safari Textiles Ltd, and Lesage General Enterprises.

Governor Yusuf recently established two committees to investigate allegations of misusing public assets, political violence, and disappearances during Ganduje’s administration.

A top official of the Ikoyi Custodial Centre has revealed that Idris Okuneye, aka Bobrisky, who was handed a six-month prison sentence over naira abuse, has been thoroughly examined at the point of admission.

Bobrisky, who was taken into the Custodial Centre after the judgement, was said to have been treated equally to other inmates.

Confirming the genital status of the cross-dresser as quoted by Punch, the top official of the Ikoyi prison facility said, “Bobrisky made a public declaration that he was a male and court proceedings are public records. Every inmate brought into a facility during admission is examined. He was equally examined and no realignment of gender or genital organ was discovered. The male biological features were the same.

“After that, a cell was allocated to him, and he had a certain number of inmates with him. A bed space was also allotted to him. It is just like a boarding house where your housemaster will issue you your personal belongings.”

The official stated that the examination results indicated the convict did not undergo any gender realignment surgery or alterations to their genitalia.

Meanwhile, an earlier report by Pulse confirmed that there were concerns about Bobrisky’s safety due to his sexual orientation, but the prison officials have stated that they will ensure Bobrisky is well-protected from any potential danger.

The spokesperson of the NCoS said, “Since he admitted to being a male in court, then we have to abide by what was submitted in court.

“He shouldn’t be afraid of sexual assault from other male inmates because our men can give him protection.”

Sanwo-Olu's Lagos Government unhappy with 'Gangs of Lagos' film

The government doesn't like the portrayal of the Eyo masquerade as a gun-wielding villain.
The Jade Osiberu film follows the lives of three friends who grow up in a crime-ridden Isale Eko in Lagos and are drawn into gang life.

In a statement on Wednesday, April 12, the state's Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf, condemned the film for misrepresenting the culture of the state.

She further rebuked the producers for portraying the revered Eyo masquerade as a gun-wielding villain.

"We are of the opinion that the production of the film 'Gangs of Lagos' is very unprofessional and misleading while its content is derogatory of our culture, with the intention to desecrate the revered heritage of the people of Lagos.

"It is an unjust profiling of a people and culture as being barbaric and nefarious. It depicts a gang of murderers rampaging across the state."

The government released the statement hours after the Isale Eko Descendants' Union (IDU) similarly expressed discontent with the portrayal of the Eyo masquerade. The masquerade performs during festivals and other important events and is believed to represent the spirits of the ancestors.

The IDU lodged a complaint with the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) demanding the withdrawal of the approval granted to the film. The cultural group also demanded the film be withdrawn from all viewing channels.

"The IDU and other community stakeholders will also be considering legal action for the damage done to the culture, tradition and image of the Isale Eko community and the Eyo masquerade," the group said.
Gangs of Lagos is the first African Original for Prime Video and part of Osiberu's three-year overall deal with the streaming platform.

Petrol may hit N800/litre on subsidy removal – Marketers

As the scarcity of the Premium of Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, continued on Sunday, oil marketers have stated that the cost of the commodity would cross N800/litre once subsidy on PMS is removed.

Industry operators had repeatedly stated that the high cost of subsidy on petrol was a burden on the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and was contributory to the prolonged crisis in the downstream oil sector. NNPC is the sole importer of petrol into Nigeria.

The Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, recently suggested that the government should gradually withdraw subsidy on PMS, stressing that the budgetary allocation for subsidy would end in June.

But oil marketers told our correspondent that while it could be advisable to remove subsidy, Nigerians should know that the cost of petrol could cross N800/litre once the commodity was no longer subsidised.

They urged the Federal Government to ensure that all the necessary measures and infrastructure to ensure a less stressful subsidy removal regime were put in place before implementing the decision.

“If the government fails to take the appropriate measures, and they say they want to remove fuel subsidy, the situation will be worse than this, the masses will suffer. How can you remove subsidy and you don’t have this product (petrol),” the Secretary, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Abuja-Suleja, Mohammed Shuaibu, stated.

He added, “If the government removes subsidy, where is the product? If you are removing subsidy, maybe by that time, the way diesel is sold at between N800 – N900/litre, we could be buying petrol at N800/litre, if not more than that.
“This is because the product will be scarce, even from the government cycle. So the government should tell Nigerians the truth about this fuel supply crisis. It is not a problem caused by marketers.”

Shuaibu said oil marketers were ready to sell, stressing that when marketers got products a few weeks ago, the queues disappeared.

“But as it is today, you have black marketers everywhere selling with jerrycans and you will ask, where are the security agencies and the regulators?” he asked.

The IPMAN official added, “By tomorrow they will claim that it is the fault of the marketers. How? We are businessmen and every businessman wants to make a profit. You know the law of supply and demand. When the product is scarce, prices will rise, and vice versa.”

He explained that the downstream sector was not structured for adequate competition, adding that this could also pose challenges when subsidy was eventually removed.

He said, “By the time you are removing subsidy, you should know that the market is not properly opened and there is no competition. They always tell you about Dangote Refinery. We must understand that Dangote is a privately owned company.

“The pipelines of that facility were not even designed to run in any Nigerian state, rather it was designed to run to neighbouring countries, and maybe that one in Lekki there, that is all.

“So, more or less, that refinery might still exploit us, because when there is no competition, the only supplier calls the shots. For had it been that as Dangote is producing in Lagos, another person is producing in Warri, while one refinery is pumping in Abuja, then there will be competition.”

He continued, “We can see, for instance, the competition in the telecommunications sector today. But the government will continue to deceive us that Dangote Refinery will come on stream, when we know that it cannot really solve the problem.”
He argued that most of the pipes of the refinery were laid to neighbouring countries to supply them gas, stressing that Nigeria should not completely rely on the facility.

“They should not continue to be singing it as if it is what will solve our fuel supply problems,” the IPMAN official stated.

Motorists lambast APC

Meanwhile, the scarcity and hike in the price of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol, has generated an outcry from users of the commodity, especially motorists, who have directed their anger at the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The commodity, which has an official price of N185, is being sold at higher prices by filling stations across the country.
This is in addition to the long queues of vehicles that often add to the woes of Nigerians due to the traffic they cause when they spill into main roads.

According to one Instagram user, @paschal_dheyvid, who bought the commodity at N200 per litre, he had to pay N1, 000 to gain entrance into the filling station and still had to join a long queue.

The same situation was experienced by a Twitter user, @thatboyyouhate, who said, “I was at a filling station this morning and they had to take N1, 000 from me for my 25-litre keg.”

An Instagram user, @charlessoronnadimotors, said he bought the commodity at “N420 per litre here in Aboh Mbaise, Imo State.”

Twitter user, @supapraise, lamented the long hours he spent in the queue at a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation filling station in Port Harcourt before he could buy the commodity.

He wrote, “I spent 11hrs (5am to join an already long queue. I left at 4pm) at the NNPC filling station in PH. I bought for N189. That morning, it was N179. They paused selling and adjusted the metre to the new price of N189. Paused selling again to maintain their generator since there was no NEPA electricity.”

Expressing anger at the APC which is seeking to remain in power in 2023, one @RexAgu1 said, “N360 per litre. APC has failed the unborn kids. They have removed subsidy without letting Nigerians know.”
On his part, one @King_Olivertwit sarcastically said, “APC supporters are buying it for N50/L while others are buying it for N350 to as much as N500 per litre.”

One Pascal Nwankwo, @pascalnwankwo7, blamed the situation on the APC, adding, “…and some misguided fellows are still campaigning for the APC.”

On Instagram, one @malaro44 laid curses on those still working to ensure that the APC retained the Presidency after the end of the regime of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). He said, “People voting APC, may everything about APC never depart from your household… the suffering, the hardship, the kidnapping and insecurity.”

Efforts to get the reaction of the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, proved abortive as his phone number was busy and he didn’t respond to the text message sent to him by our correspondent.

Court threatens to jail Buhari, Senate President Lawan, Malami, Lauretta Onochie, others for contempt

     President Muhammadu Buhari
A Federal High Court in Abuja has warned President Muhammadu Buhari; Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; the Senate of the National Assembly; Mrs. Lauretta Onochie and Chief Samuel Ogbuku on the consequences of flouting an earlier restraining order.

In a notice of consequences of disobedience to order of court dated December 23, 2022, the court gave a warning to President Buhari, Lawan, Onochie and others.
‘’Take notice that unless you obey the directions contained in this order, you will be guilty of contempt of court and will be liable to be committed to prison,” the notice read.
The court also stopped President Buhari from swearing in Ms Onochie and Ogbuku.

The duo were last week screened and confirmed as respective chairman and Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission.

The court had earlier granted an order stopping the National Assembly from screening and confirming the nomination of Onochie and Ogbuku.

The presiding judge, Justice J. K. Omotosho, instructed that all actions on the matter be suspended pending the determination of the suit.

Among other things, the originating summons marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2294/2022 is seeking a restraining order on the National Assembly from screening and confirming the duo.

The plaintiffs, Chief Edward Ekpokpo Esq., and Victor Wood who are both representing the Itsekiri Leaders of Thought and Mr Edward Omagbemi who is presenting Omadino Unity Forum all on behalf of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality are challenging the nomination on the grounds that it is the turn of the Itsekiri nationality to occupy the positions.
The first to sixth defendants in the suit are President Muhammadu Buhari, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; Senate President, Ahmad Lawan; the House of Senate, Mrs Lauretta Onochie and Chief Samuel Ogbuku.

The suit filed by Ama Etuwewe SAN & Co., demands that the provisions of the NDDC Act should be followed in the process.

It maintained that it is the turn of the Itsekiri ethnic nationality to produce the NDDC board chairman and MD as arguably the biggest oil-producing community in Delta State.

Adjourning the matter to January 11, 2023, for further hearing, the presiding judge, Justice J. K. Omotosho, upon reading the affidavit and hearing the counsel to the plaintiff, declared

“That leave is hereby granted to the plaintiffs to serve the 5th and 6th defendants with the originating processes in this suit by substituted means to wit by advertising the processes in at least one national newspaper circulating within the jurisdiction of this to court and to deem the same as proper service.

“That an order is hereby made that no party in this suit shall take any step or act or action that may make the outcome of the pending motion on notice for injunction Dated and filed December 12, 2022, nugatory.

“That any act or step or action taken in this order to make the outcome of the said motion on notice dated and filed December 12, 2022, nugatory shall be a nullity.”

Despite the court order, the Senate on Tuesday confirmed Onochie and Ogbuku as NDDC chairman and MD respectively.

Brother to late Bimbo speaks on why his sister put fire on her matrimonial home that eventually led to her death

Oyindamola Martins who is the younger brother of late Bimbo Ogbonna, wife of auto dealer Ikechukwu Ogbonna aka IVD, has given details of how his sister put fire to her matrimonial home that eventually led to her death
In an interview with OAP, DaddyFreeze, Oyindamola said after many years of sadness, physical and emotional trauma, the late Bimbo recently decided it was time for her to walk out of her marriage but she did not want to walk away empty-handed. He said Bimbo told him that she had “sacrificed” her life for her husband, IVD and that she made him who he is today and cannot just walk away.

Oyindamola said Bimbo asked her husband to give her the documents of their property in Lagos so she can take possession of the property but he refused. He said Bimbo then vowed to burn the house so that both of them would not have it.

”She said since this is the only house we have, let us burn it so the two of us would leave with nothing”

He said Bimbo poured kerosine on herself and then threatened to burn herself but IVD who was home at the time failed to persuade her not to do so. He said Bimbo then set fire to their curtain and held on to IVD but he allegedly pushed her into the burning curtain which consumed her. She got 100-degree burns.

As she was lighting up the whole house, she poured kerosine on her body and was like let everything just end.  When she did it, she stopped for a while and went round the house. He was not saying anything. He was like ‘if you want to die, die’. ”

Oyindamola said at this point, Bimbo set fire to their curtain.

”As the curtain was burning, she now jacked him and was like you will give me this papers today..He pushed her off his body and this got her into the curtain.”

Oyindamola said Bimbo suffered 100-degree burns on her body.

”She suffered from a hundred degree burns. That takes like about of a couple of minutes to get 100 degree burns. When she was on fire, her husband was right in front of her doing nothing.”

He said Bimbo was the one who ran out by herself and asked for help to be taken to any hospital. He said she was rejected by 10 different hospitals before they finally found one where she was admitted.

On allegations that Bimbo helped IVD carry out some ritual exercise, Oyindamola said he cannot confirm that but it is something Bimbo could have done because she loved him so much.

He also said that he isn’t sure if IVD has HIV or not.
