A Nigerian soldier who has been helping Boko Haram/Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) has committed suicide.

DailyPost quoted PRNigeria as saying that the member of the Armed Forces took his own life while being escorted to the barracks on Tuesday.

His cover was blown by military intelligence which exposed his involvement in the massacre at brothels and beer parlours in Yobe State.

Identified as Lance Corporal Jibrin, he was involved in the attacks in Geidam and Gashua towns. More than a dozen civilians were killed.

“He was apprehended while attempting to escape after he learnt that his movements and activities with terrorists have been discovered.

“After being handcuffed, he skillfully snatched a gun from one of the escorts and killed himself.

“Investigation is ongoing to nab other suspects within the service”,a source told PRNigeria.

Jibrin, an instructor with his Army Battalion in Geidam, was initially not seen for days, the report revealed.

He was later sighted among the Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters that invaded the Yobe communities.

A team, including the Battalion Commander Officer, tracked his phone and found that Jibrin was at Gashua, many kilometers from his duty post.

On Tuesday, the soldier boarded a bus to Gombe State, in disguise, but was intercepted at a checkpoint in Gashua.

Jibrin, who implicated some other military personnel, made revelations about Boko Haram, ISWAP, the insurgents, his participation, etc.

While in transit to Geidam, he disarmed one of his escorts, overpowered another and shot himself dead.

UPDATE: Identities Of Two Pilots Killed In Nigerian Air Force Aircraft Crash In Kaduna

The photograph of the two Nigerian Air Force pilots killed when a military aircraft crashed in Kaduna State has been released.

The two pilots, Flight Lieutenants Abubaka Alkali and Karatu who recently graduated from the Nigeria Defence Academy were among military officers who returned from Pakistan in April 2021, following a six-month training in the South-East Asian country.
SaharaReporters had reported how the training aircraft with the two pilots on board crashed on Tuesday evening.

The aircraft, believed to be a Super Mushak, reportedly crashed within the NAF base while on a training mission.

According to one Amina Yahaya, one of the late pilots was planning to marry her friend in October.

“One of them is Flt Lt Karatu; he was my friend's fiancĂ©; they were going to get married in October. I was going to be a bridesmaid at the wedding,” she posted on Twitter.

“I haven't been able to speak to my friend and I am not anywhere close to even comfort her. It's a different kind of pain.”

It was learnt that the other pilot, Alkali once received an award as the best international cadet from the Royal Air Force in Britain.

The latest development comes a few months after a NAF aircraft crashed in Kaduna.

The incident, which occurred in May 2021, involved a Beechcraft 350, and the aircraft crashed around the Kaduna international airport.

Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff, and 10 other military officers, who were on board when the plane crashed, were killed.

2023: Tinubu, Osinbajo, Other APC Aspirants Surprised As Another Top Personality Declares Ambition

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, has officially declared his intention to succeed President Buhari come 2023. The popular Minister has now joined hosts of top presidential aspirants in the All Progressives Congress.

Ngige made it clear that he wants to see a prosperous, joined together and fair Nigeria in 2023. The Minister announced his Presidential aspiration while tending to a large group at St. Mary’ s Catholic Church Alor, Idemili South nearby government area of Anambra State, on Tuesday.

The previous legislative head of the state said he was exceptional as a minister because of his 40 years of involvement with the public help. Ngige said he has an enormous abundance of involvement, limit and energy as well as a huge heart to oblige the distinctions among Nigerians.

Chris Ngige believes he is in pole position to succeed President Buhari come 2023. Considering his wealth of experience and what is required to revive the country in 2023, Ngige might just be the perfect match for the presidential position.

Would Chris Ngige manage to clinch APC presidential ticket?
This is quite difficult to navigate especially when you consider the calibre of aspirants eyeing the party’ s presidential ticket. We can’ t possibly overlook the influence Chris Ngige enjoys in the All Progressives Congress.

At the same time, the likes of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Osinbajo, Rochas Okorocha, and some other top aspirants are more likely going to clinch the party’ s presidential ticket due to their activeness in the Nigerian political scene recently. We would keep our fingers crossed and see how events unfold at the primaries.

Nigerian Army Recruiting Boko Haram Terrorists, Giving Them Ranks – Doctor Raises Alarm

Nigerian Army Recruiting Boko Haram Terrorists, Giving Them Ranks – Doctor Raises Alarm
A Nigerian doctor has raised alarm over the handling of insecurity in Nigeria.

Obinna Oke decried the level of insecurity in the country as he revealed that some terrorists are recruited into the army.

In a Facebook post, he revealed that the reason the military is losing the war against insecurity is as a result of the unethical decision of the government to recruit terrorists into the army.

He wrote:

I was still in the Baracks 2 years ago when the Nigerian military initiated hundreds of captured Boko Haram terrorists who should be rotting in prison into the Nigerian Army, handing them ranks and arms. The military in their own ‘wisdom’ infiltrated their own system with the same terrorists who had killed and were still killing their men and innocent citizens in huge numbers. I recall walking into the MRS and seeing a captain, friend and colleague seated gloomy and hopeless, saddened by the news. We both couldn’t make any sense out of it. A year later and uptill now, the same Nigerian military has at many times apprehended soldiers delivering military uniforms, arms and ammunition to these Boko Haram terrorists and bandits, not to speak of the leak of sensitive information and intelligence. And I’m wondering why anybody thinks that the government is serious about the fight against insecurity in Nigeria. And lest I forget, aside Buhari, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo often chaired the FEC and joint security meetings that arrived at such unthinkable resolutions. It is not well at all.

The couple already share a five-year-old daughter in Alana, but the tragic news has rocked the football world.

The forward returned to United last summer bringing his family to English shores and looking to build further with the arrival of twins.

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo to need time to grieve the tragic loss
If there is one thing the football world does right is its time to come together as a family.

The tragic loss of the United star's baby boy will only show the support the sport shows in helping the legendary forward grieve.

Manchester United face Liverpool on Tuesday night but there is no information on whether he will be available although it appears unlikely.

The 37-year-old needs to be given time to come to terms with such a sad moment and he will have the support of not only his club but everybody in the football family.

His hat-trick on the weekend against Norwich is testament of the superstar he is and hopefully the birth of the baby girl helps in giving the couple hope.

Despite CBN ban, 33.4 million Nigerians trade crypto – Report

Despite the Central Bank of Nigeria’s restriction on cryptocurrencies-related transactions in the banking sector, a report by a crypto platform has said about 33.4 million Nigerians trade or own crypto assets.

In its report, ‘Into The Cryptoverse: Decoding The World Of Crypto Consumers,’ KuCoin, a crypto exchange with over 10 million registered users, said the crypto population is largely dominated by 18 to 60-year-olds.

It said, “According to Google Trends, Nigeria was recorded as the country with the highest number of bitcoin searches globally in early 2021, signaling the growing utility of cryptocurrency in the country.

“The data also pointed out that the country’s youth have been the decisive force behind the surge in bitcoin searches. According to our survey conducted in early 2022, 33.4 million Nigerians, which accounts for 35 per cent of the population aged 18 to 60, currently own or have traded cryptocurrencies over the past six months.

“70 per cent of these crypto investors claim that they will likely increase their cryptocurrency assets soon. Another six per cent of the country’s population are interested in investing in cryptocurrency in the coming 6 months, suggesting that the cryptocurrency adoption rate might continue to increase.”

According to the crypto exchange, the depreciation of the naira over the last six years has fuelled the increase in the number of crypto users in the nation.

It added, “The Nigerian currency, Naira, has depreciated by more than 209 per cent in the past six years. Some Nigerians recognised the financial opportunity brought by Bitcoin early on.

“According to our survey, 37 per cent of crypto investors in the country began trading cryptocurrencies more than three years ago. At the same time, 6 per cent started trading cryptocurrencies more than six years ago.

“Meanwhile, as prices continue to rise, with food inflation reaching its highest point since 2008, the challenging economic climate in Nigeria remains and has even worsened by COVID-19, making cryptocurrencies attractive alternative sources of income, particularly in the bullish market in 2021. According to the survey, 26 per cent of crypto investors have begun trading cryptocurrencies in the last 6 months.”

The firm said the average number of monthly transactions across African countries showed a 1,386.7 per cent from January 2021 to January 2022.

It added the number of users also increased by 2,467.2 per cent within the same time period.
According to a report by Chainalysis, a blockchain data platform, the cryptocurrency market in Nigeria and other African countries grew by 1200 per cent in 2021.

The firm added that Nigeria is the sixth leading country in the world in terms of cryptocurrency adoption as a result of its peer-to-peer monetary systems.

The report said the African region, dominated by Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Tanzania, has one of the highest grassroots adoptions of crypto in the world. It added that Africa has the third-fastest growing cryptocurrency economy in the world.

The International Monetary Fund recently said the adoption of crypto assets was being driven by emerging markets and developing economies. It added that countries in this region increased their trading volumes in crypto exchanges in 2021.

In February of 2021, the CBN put a restriction on cryptocurrency transactions in the nation. It had said, “Further to earlier regulatory directives on the subject, the bank hereby wishes to remind regulated institutions that dealing with cryptocurrencies or facilitating payments for cryptocurrency exchanges is prohibited.”

Recently, the CBN fined three Deposit Money Banks N800m fine for violating its regulations barring customers from transacting in cryptocurrencies.
