Nigerian Drug Dealer, Gabriel Onyechefula Killed In Philippines During Shootout With Police

Nigerian national, Gabriel Onyechefula, was killed in a buy-and-bust operation that yielded PHP13.6 million worth of shabu in Tarlac, Philippines on New Year's Eve, PNA reports. Shabu is a slang term for the drug – methamphetamine, used in Japan, Hong Kong, Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia
Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) director, Brig. Gen. Ronald Lee, identified the fatality as Gabriel Onyechefula, a member of the West African Syndicate (WADS), who lures Filipinos to become drug mules for them.

The operation was conducted at around 10 am on Thursday at a parking lot in Barangay Jefmin, Concepcion Tarlac.

The suspect pulled out his firearm upon sensing that he was dealing with a police officer who acted as a poseur-buyer. This prompted the police officer to fire at the suspect to defend himself.

Onyechefula succumbed to a gunshot wound in his abdomen. Recovered from him were three transparent plastic bags containing around two kilos of shabu, buy-bust money, a calibre 9mm machine pistol and ammunition, and two genuine one thousand pesos bills placed on top of 14 bundles of boodle money. The suspect's cadaver was taken to the Capas Medical Center.

Scam Alert: Cyber Security Personel Cautions About Whats@pp Accounts Take Overs

The General Public has been cautioned about the new strategy some fraudsters are adapting to scam people.
It has been revealed that these fraudsters are planning on taking over the WhatsApp accounts of people without their knowledge and use it to scam their contact list.

This was revealed in an interview on TV3 by a Cyber Analyst at E-Crime Bureau identified as Mr. Philemon Hene who said that they have already reported five cases of this scam and will caution the general public about it.

According to Philemon, in order for these fraudsters to achieve their aim, they will send you a message through WhatsApp, telling you that you’ve won some money from a website.
After that, they will ask you to send a code that will pop up on your phone to them in order for them to complete the process of redeeming your prize.

Philemon said that this code will actually enable the fraudsters to change your number but gain access to your WhatsApp account as well as your contact list.

He added that in order for one to know that his/her account has been taken over by these fraudsters, you will receive a message indicating that your number is no longer associated with the WhatsApp account.

Mbaka Prophesies End of Buhari’s Regime

A Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministries, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, has prophesied the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime.

This he said depends on Buhari’s ability to act fast and save his government from looming extinction.
Mbaka spoke at the 2020 edition of his popular annual December 31 Crossover Night ministration, advising the federal government to take swift moves to create jobs to prevent Nigerian youths from embarking on restiveness that may consume the regime.

The event, which held at the AMEN Arena, Enugu, was tagged, “Cornucopia of New Miracles from God”.

The fiery priest also took a swipe at the country’s lawmakers, especially members of the National Assembly (NASS).
Describing the lawmakers as “kidnappers”, he maintained that unless the Buhari administration hastened move to genuinely start taking care of the youths, that they (youths) “will rise and end the current political system”.

While noting that Nigerians were going through horrible conditions, Mbaka also cautioned state governors, ministers and all political office holders, stressing that they have alone the choice of repenting and start “doing the needful” otherwise, what awaited them would be unbearable.
His words:

“The Holy Spirit of God asked me to warn the government of the day to be very careful; to change policies and take care of the youths without politicising their (youths’) condition.

“That the government should rise and urgently create jobs and innovate opportunities that would benefit the youths of the nation because they have suffered so much.
“Don’t politicise the condition of the youths, otherwise, they will arise and end the political system.

“Should the government fail to do so as soon as possible that time is coming when the youths will rise against the government, and that any attempt to stop them will end the government?”

Mbaka, who did not specify when the lurking youth agitation would take place, however, dropped another puzzling pronouncement.
He said: “I can see a year ahead; it is not specific whether it is in 2021 that this will happen, but it is within a time in the time of life, that the anger of God will befall many people in the political circle because they have looted so much and disgraced this nation enough.

“Those who should be serving the country have looted the country dry for their personal aggrandisement, such that our children and grandchildren no longer have a future”.

He pointed out that politicians had for long busied themselves in “packing and packing the nation’s commonwealth, refusing to create wealth, but that they now turned around to tag the youths kidnappers, criminals, hoodlums and so on.

He also declared that God was angry with past and present leaders for turning Nigerian youths into beggars in other countries due to overwhelming hardship in the nation, and urged them to find a way to right their wrongs.
“They should obey the voice of God, sit together and think out how to reshape Nigeria.

“The situation in the country portends wickedness, wicked ruling in high places, in the name of legislators; they are the real kidnappers, and the anger of God is upon them.

“I know they would want to attack this message, as usual, but I warn, let nobody, whether you are a politician or a man of God, attacks this message so you do not become a victim!
“Whoever that would conspire against this message or partake in any gang-up against me or this ministry, your evil plans will turn back and befall you.

“Be warned, this is no longer the Fr Mbaka of 2020 but that of 2021,” he said, adding that, “it will be fire for fire this year; if you attack us, you will be attacked.”

“They have kidnapped the opportunities meant for the youths, kidnapped the nation’s wealth and jobs meant for the youths.

“They have kidnapped a lot of infrastructure development,”

Killer Herdsmen Unleash terror on Oyo communities

FOR the people in Ibarapa in Oke Ogun Area, Oyo State, it is one day one trouble. A day hardly passes without a story of someone being killed or attacked. Such is the situation in the area that the people now sleep with one eye closed. Sadly, the female population is most vulnerable.
It is as if there is no end in sight to the plight of the residents of the villages in that part of Oyo State. Some weeks back, the murder of Dr. Fatai Aborode, the CEO of of Kunfayakun Green Treasure Limited and former House of Representatives candidate under the banner of the Accord Party in the 2015 general election, again brought to fore the worsening security situation in the area and the South West in general.
Aborode was said to have been murdered near his farm around Apodun Village in Igangan, Ibarapa North West Local Council Development Area by suspected herdsmen while leaving his farm on a motorbike with his farm manager at about 4 pm.

Describing Aborode’s death as painful, Akeem Adeoye, an indigene of the town, recalled that the victim only returned to Nigeria from Germany about two years ago to start a farm.
“This year alone, he cultivated 300 acres of soya beans, 200 acres of maize and 100 acres of cashew. It is something that had never happened in the history of our local government,” Adeoye told The Nation.

He reckoned that the feat alone would have provided employment for a lot of the youths in the community.

Speaking in the same vein, Pa Ganiyu, a supervisor at the farm, who was said to have been with the late Aborode some 30 minutes before he was murdered, described the deceased man as a good Muslim.
Aware of the security situation in his domain, one would have expected Aborode to go about with security details, but Pa Adeoye said he (Aborode) had no reason to keep a retinue of security aides because “he was a man of peace and extremely generous.” Igangan town hall According to Adeoye, the workers on the farm have since returned to continue the harvest on the instruction of Aborode’s wife.

He said: “The woman begged us to return so that the soya beans would not spoil. On the day of the incident, we had harvested one ton. “His death really hit me. If not for the wife, I would not want to go back to the farm. The man invested billions of naira in the farm.”
Also speaking with The Nation, the manager of the farm, Olanrewaju Bolanle Saakin, who was with the CEO of Kunfayakun Green Treasure Limited before he was murdered, said they were attacked by four men. He, however, would not be categorical as to the tribe of their assailants, saying: “Only God knows what no man knows. All I can tell you is that they spoke Fulani.”

Olanrewaju said in a move that looked like a planned attack, the first thing the attackers did was to separate him from his boss and make them run in opposite directions. He said that some of the attackers held him in one part of the bush, the others took the late Aborode to another direction where he was murdered.

Some of the workers working on the late Aborode’s farm.
Another source said the late Aborode actually engaged his attackers in a fierce battle before he was eventually subdued. Olanrewaju said the attack was not anticipated because the occasional attacks previously recorded in the area were limited to cattle rustling and were not targeted at farmers.

To prove that there had been a cordial relationship between the farmers and the herdsmen, he said when the farmers had poor maize harvest this season because of lack of rain, the herdsmen were invited to graze their cattle on the farm in order to clear the land.

A source told the reporter that Olanrewaju was arrested and whisked to Ibadan, Oyo State for questioning shortly after he spoke with The Nation.

Some months before Aborode was shot dead, a female farmer and certified pharmacist, Mrs Muyibat Taiwo, who dwells in Akoya, one of the villages in Ibarapa, was also attacked by some people believed to be herdsmen but she escaped by a whisker.

Before then, there were said to have been several unreported attacks on women. Her case, however, attracted attention because of the serious efforts made to draw attention to several attacks in that part of Oyo State.
Narrating how Mrs Taiwo was attacked, a close relation of the 50-year-old woman said she was one of the most popular personalities in the community.

According to the source, she was always in high demand among the people in the community because aside from selling medicines to the Fulani and their Yoruba hosts, she is also a farmer and it was on the farm that she was attacked.

A family source said but for providence she would have been killed by some of the herdsmen she had helped in the past.

Recalling the circumstances of the attack, the source said: “It was around 1 pm and she was working on her farm when two herdsmen passed and they exchanged greetings. Apparently, one of them was very familiar with her. They said they were looking for their lost cow, but mama told them that she had not seen anything like that.
“She is familiar with almost all the herdsmen in the area because she treats them often. Whenever they had injuries in the bush, they would come to her shop for treatment.

“When they came back, they told her that they still had not found their cow and Mama prayed for them that they would find it.

“Unknown to her, one of them had come back quietly and lurked in the bush. According to Mama, it was a kind of shadow she saw that jolted her because she was backing the road.

“She asked what the matter was, and it was that question that brought the beast in the herdsman out.

“He said you are the one that carried our cow and today we will butcher you.

“Mama said she pleaded that they should spare her for the sake of her children. But rather than listen, the herdsman drew the dagger and wanted to drive it into her forehead, but Mama used her hand to cover her head, so instead of the herdsman’s target, it was her phalanges that he cut.”
The source said as Mrs Taiwo was shouting, her children who had come with her to the farm also joined in raising the alarm. This attracted sympathisers and the woman was rescued. He said: “Immediately the herdsman macheted her, he ran away, thinking that she had died.

“And while they were running away, they went to attack another guy popularly called Biggy. They ambushed him and he dropped his motorcycle and took to his heels. Seeing that they could not catch up with him, they returned and set fire on his bike.”

Unfortunately for the herdsmen, the phone of one of them dropped while he was running. The following day the police came to the crime scene, they found the phone.

“It is three months now and we have not heard anything from the police,” the source said in frustration.

The Nation gathered since Taiwo’s case there had been several others in the area.

Why attacks persist in Ibarapa

The absence of security operatives in the area are believed to have predisposed farmers to attacks. The Nation gathered that most farmers in the community depend on the vigilante groups for their security.
Speaking on the security situation in Ibarapa, a man who preferred to be identified simply as Yinka said if there are no enemies within, a stranger cannot do any harm. Oba lasisi Adeoye

“I suspect some level of conspiracy within the community,” he said.

The Nation gathered that it is the natives who come to the police station to bail them when some of the criminal elements are arrested.

“Because they have properties with some of these indigenes, they believe it is a licence to do whatever they want.

“They now see it as a culture to machete Yoruba men and women. Go to Igangan and adjoining villages and do a survey, you will hardly find five out of 10 Yoruba men with a complete set of fingers. Many who are with a complete set of fingers are without ear, and we have been shouting and shouting about this.”
The Nation also gathered that apart from constant attacks on indigenes in this part of Oyo State, kidnapping is currently at its peak.

“Recently, a friend’s relation was kidnapped and the family had to pay N7 million as ransom. That is how miserable and harrowing our lives have been,” a source in the community told The Nation, adding that they had cried to the state government to no avail.

He said that many of the affluent people in the community had been dealt with by the criminal elements among the herders in one way or the other.

“The women can no longer go to the farm without their husbands. If they do, there is no assurance that they would come back in one piece. And for the farmers here, the fear of the Fulani is the beginning of wisdom. They come to your farm and tell you that they want to graze on it. Any attempt to resist them, they will machete you.”

To make the matter worse, some of the leaders of the town, whenever there is a problem, rather than address it, they prefer to cover for these herders. A few of them are married to the herdsman and most times, their judgments lack objectivity.

According to Yinka, some of the leaders, because of the alliance they have through marriage, sell land to them indiscriminately.

“This is the laxity they exploit. So, any time there is a problem, the sing song is, ‘It is a local thing; we will settle it.’ That is what they always tell the police.

“The monarchs are helpless because they have taken too much from them. The Seriki of the Fulani is as powerful as a Yoruba monarch.

“Things are getting worse in Igangan. There is no difference between the Yoruba and the herdsman. They have almost outgrown us in population. That has been the case from Igboora down to Igangan and Elekoko. The rural women are the ones feeling the pains most.”

Monarch denies shielding herdsmen

Reacting to the incessant attacks by herdsmen in the area, the traditional ruler of Iganganland, Ashiganaga, Lasisi Adeoye, said efforts were being made to arrest the insecurity situation in that part of Oyo State. He said consultations were ongoing and peace and security meetings were being held within and outside the town to prevent future occurrence.

While recognising the fact that some of the cows belonging to Fulani herders sometimes destroy the farmlands, he said it was not possible for the community to drive them away as they had been around for long.

He denied the claim that traditional rulers are shielding the herders, saying: “Most times when they enter the town, they enter at night. You know they (herders) settle in the bush. They don’t rent houses. It is only when the crisis has escalated that we get to hear anything. That is the problem we are facing.

“But anytime their cows destroy farmland, they are made to account for it.

“We are working on it and we are trying to stop the incessant attacks.

“We are meeting, we are dialoguing and we are working on how to curtail the crisis. They come to us for meetings.”

We’ll call them to order — OPC

The Oyo State chapter of the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) said that it would not fold its arms and watch the continued killing of other innocent citizens of the state by herdsmen.

According to a report, OPC said it was disturbed with the way the herdsmen were disturbing the conducive atmosphere in the state, adding that the OPC was battle ready to curtail the excesses of the so called herdsmen in the state.

The group said it was putting a lot of strategies in place to make sure that citizens Oyo State can sleep with their two eyes closed.

‘Why it may be difficult for Amotekun, OPC to fight insecurity’

A security expert and a certified golden member of the International Security Association, Switzerland, Mr Jackson Lekan Ojo, said it may be difficult for both the Western Nigeria Security Network (WNSN) codenamed Operation Amotekun (Leopard) and the Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) to win the war against insecurity in the South-West

According to him, the two groups do not have the required tools to do the job. “What are they going to use. Can the defenseless defend people?” he wondered.

He said the two outfits do not have the necessary encouragement to arrest the trend, warning that the people being engaged to fight crime could be tools to sabotage the system if they get tired.

Ojo said: “OPC and Amotekun cannot do much to arrest the trend. Who are the OPC boys? The OPC boys are not gainfully employed, the OPC boys are not traders.

“I want to clearly tell you that the OPC boys are those that are jobless; they have nothing doing. If they are engaged in one form of employment or the other, I don’t think they will have time for OPC.

“OPC is a voluntary organization. Nobody is paying them and nobody is appreciating them. They are trying their best, but a time is coming when the level of economic crisis will hit them hard. Most of them will withdraw, and where are they withdrawing to?”

He said the two cannot stop criminality in the South West

He observed that the police too do not have the necessary encouragement, “and the military are overwhelmed with what they are seeing in the North.”

While describing the security challenge as a national problem, he warned that nobody should expect anything magical from the police in the South West, because it is a national issue.

He noted that police in the South West are not being funded better than any other part of this country. “The police in the South-West are not better equipped than the police in other regions. The police in the South-West are not better motivated than those in other parts of this country,” he said.

He advised those little things like accommodation, uniform, booths, operational vehicles and other things that have to do with the welfare of the police to be taken care of in order for them to perform optimally.

NIN: FG lists fresh conditions for SIM replacement

The Federal Government has listed fresh conditions for telecommunication service subscribers to replace lost, stolen, misplaced or damaged SIM cards.
According to the Nigerian Communications Commission, subscribers must present their National Identification Numbers for their SIM cards to be replaced.

The National Identity Management Commission will also verify the National Identification Numbers presented by subscribers before Mobile Network Operators replace such SIM cards.

Telcos are also expected to adhere to other SIM replacement guidelines, according to a statement jointly signed on Friday by the Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Ikechukwu Adinde; and Head, Corporate Communication, NIMC, Kayode Adegoke.
The statement said the decision was taken by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami after he considered the report by a technical committee “charged with the operationalisation of the process to ensure an expedited linkage of all SIM Registration Records with NIN”.

The committee comprised the NCC, NIMC, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, and Mobile Network Operators.
The statement titled, ‘SIM Replacement Policy For The Nigerian Telecommunications Industry’, partly read, “Based on recommendations of the Technical Committee, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has approved a SIM Replacement Policy for subscribers whose SIMs have been lost, stolen, misplaced or damaged subject to the following conditions:
“That the subscriber present a NIN;

“That an effective verification of the NIN is carried out by NIMC; and

“That the relevant Guidelines and Regulations of NCC concerning SIM Replacement are fully adhered to.

“This policy is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to reduce the burden on subscribers and simplify the exercise. It is aimed at enabling telecommunications service users who need to replace their damaged, stolen or misplaced SIMs to re-establish access to telecom services.”
The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Federal Government through the NCC ordered telecommunications companies to deactivate telephone lines of subscribers who failed to link their phones to their National Identity Number.

Large crowd thronging the NIMC web portal for the process of obtaining their National Identity Number led to the crash of the portal last week.

Large crowds also resurfaced at NIMC centres nationwide this week after the Christmas break.

“Where is Wizkid?” – List of ‘2020’s Hottest Songs’ released and Everybody Is Surprised as who made Number 1

“Where is Wizkid?”

If you’re a person who listens to Nigerian music, then the website NotJustOk shouldn’t be unfamiliar to you. NotJustOk is one of the leading Nigerian music platforms and every year they compile a list of the year’s hottest songs. While there is no universal objective “official list” of the hottest songs of the year, NotJustOk’s compilation is as close to as an official list as we’re ever going to get. From industry viewpoint, this list is the official 20 Hottest Nigerian songs list.

This list was released yesterday and of course, everybody was waiting to see who would snag the top position…and well, I’ll just have to show you the list itself and you’ll see.

Are you ready to see the hottest 20 songs of 2020? Then let’s go!
20. Olamide ft Bad Boy Timz – Loading

Spiritual Ginger!

Personally, I never really heard this song until this Christmas holiday when my sisters came back to the house and it was all they could play. It truly is a very infectious song. I didn’t know it became as big as it clearly did, but I can understand it. It’s a really good song.

19. Burna Boy – Way Too Big

I can never forget the first time I heard this song – it was when my brother was playing me the Twice as Tall album and this song immediately stood out to me. Sonically, the song is a masterpiece – the flow is infectious, the beat is catchy. But for me, it was the lyrics that set the song apart. It’s bold, audacious, cocky…it’s such a feel-good song that truly does make anybody listening feel like they’re the best thing since sliced bread. Who doesn’t want to feel like that?

18. Cheque – Zoom

The only reason I personally know this song is because of the radio. Radio loooves this song. Personally, I don’t feel any type of way – sounds kinda repetitive to me, but according to publication, this is the 18th hottest song of the year.

17. Naira Marley – As E Dey Go

When I tell you I’ve never heard this song before 😂 This is honestly the first time I’m ever hearing of this song and I just went to listen to it to see if I’ve heard it anywhere before and it sounds so unfamiliar to me. The song from what I can hear sounds like most Naira Marley songs. I’m sure his fans really ate this one up…I mean, they must have because it is #17 on the list.

16. Tiwa Savage – Koroba

A tuuuuune!

Tiwa really did something with this song. The first time I heard it I didn’t really care for it but after hearing it a couple more times, it really grew on me and is definitely one of the highlight of the year.

15. Ladipoe ft Simi – Know You

Oh this soooong – sorry I just had to search it up to remember what this was.

I really like this song, especially Simi’s voice on it. This played a lot on the radio this year. Yeah, it’s a really good song. I really like this one.

14. Rema – Woman

Man, this song was E-VERY-WHERE! I think I can even sing the whole song and I don’t have it downloaded on my phone or anything.

It’s a really catchy song, it’s a really good song. It was wildly popular – ya, I would have been surprised if it wasn’t on this list. Big shoutout to Rema, the boy is doing very well for himself.

13. Olakira – In My Maserati

I didn’t have to search this one 😂 This is the first time I’m seeing the name of the singer of this song but that title – I know that title. It was heavily played on the radio as well and I really like the song. It’s very fun and catchy and light. It’s a really good one. I like.

12. Falz – Bop Daddy

Falz should really be thankful for TikTok and social media for making this song as popular as it became. It’s a good song but I don’t think it would have done quite as well if not for social media – that’s not me taking anything away from the song, it’s just what it is. Overall, it’s still a bop (did you feel that pun? 😂)

11. Omah Lay – Damn

I have no idea what this song is 😂 I’m sorry Omah Lay, no vex, I just don’t know what this is. I just searched it up, listened to it, and it sounds good. I’m happy for Omah Lay, he’s another boy that really did the thing this year.

10. Mayorkun – Geng

This is the first time I’m hearing this song as well…okay truly, it cannot be only me that is hearing some of these songs for the first time. Come on!

The song is number 10 on the hottest songs of 2020 list – not gonna lie, I don’t feel any way about the song. I’m happy for Mayorkun though, he’s also doing quite well for himself.

9. Olamide – Infinity (ft. Omah Lay)

Okaaay, it’s this dadarikida song. Ya, the song was everywhere on the radio as well, I never knew who sang it. It’s a really good song. Omah Lay’s chorus really makes the song. It’s a really good one.

8. Patoranking – Abule

My soooong! This song was definitely one of the major ones of 2020. It was EVERYWHERE and for good reason, it’s a really good song.

Hold am tight, hold am jeje

No this song is a grooooove! Patoranking really did something with this one. Really good stuff.

7. Wande Coal – Again

I’m a huge Wande Coal fan and I never heard this song anywhere. I know about it cuz I remember seeing it when it was released but I forgot to play it. I finally just heard it and while I am surprised it is this high on the list past so many other songs that are arguably more popular and in my opinion better, it’s still a really good song and Wande Coal never disappoints.

6. Bella Shmurda – Cash App

My sister has been blasting this song all Christmas which is the only reason I know it. People really really like this song, I personally don’t feel any way about it. But I’m happy that the song is catching on and people are really enjoying it. Really good for Bella Shmurda.

5. Fireboy DML – Vibration

I definitely think Fireboy DML is one of the most talented people in music right now. His voice is so distinctive and his music is so infectious. This song is a perfect example of that. I remember hearing this song on the radio and I instantly fell in love with it. It’s a very unique sound, wonderful production. I’m so happy it has gone on to do as well as it has because it is very well deserved.

4. Davido – FEM

This was practically the Nigerian anthem for 2020. I’m surprised it’s at #4, I thought it’d be higher. This song is not only catchy but it came at a perfect time. A really really good one, Davido should be so proud of himself and this song.

3. Simi – Duduke

Okayyy, this is what beat FEM, that makes sense. Duduke was hands down one of the biggest songs this year. My little niece sang the entire song word for word when she came visiting and it was just so cute to watch. The song is really infectious and I’m so happy that a song so joyful and heartfelt became one of the biggest songs of the year. Very well deserved!

2. Omah Lay – Bad Influence

Hmm, this Omah Lay guy is very popular I guess. How this song became number 2 on this list, I do not know but – I just listened to it for the first time and well, the song isn’t bad. I truly don’t know how it is the second hottest song of 2020 but shoutout to Omah Lay for doing what he’s doing.

1. DJ Neptune – Nobody

Upon going through this list, people had many comments on social media. Some people said the song didn’t deserve #1, some people were surprised to not see Wizkid anywhere on the list – but personally I think this song was very popular this year, it was played on so many radio stations, featured in so many advertisements, and is quite simply a really good song. Would I, Jide, have called it the hottest song of 2020? No, but do I understand why NotJustOK decided to…I guess.

What do you guys think? Do you agree with this list?

I became more organized and finally am able to step away from the daily kitchen operations.

I learned love without strings.

Give your best without expectations.

Once my mindset changed the universe gravitated me to people that uplifted me and increased my net worth mentally and financially.
