COVID-19 second wave: Lagos may lockdown if…

As Sanwo-Olu raises the alarm over frightening spike in infection cases
Reiterates needs for caution, compliance to safety protocols
Lagos deputy gov losses half brother
By Olasunkanmi Akoni
Following rising cases of COVID-19 and non adherence to safety protocols by residents, indications emerged on Wednesday of possible lockdown again in Lagos to curtail an alarming rate of the spread in the state.

To this end, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, stressed the need for citizenry to be more cautious and comply with all safety protocols amid spike in cases of COVID-19 as the state recorded an all time highest cases on Tuesday.

The governor, in the early hours gave the advice via his verified Twitter handle @jidesanwoolu.

According to Sanwo-Olu, “There is an urgent need for us to be more circumspect in the way we live, interact and socialize with our friends and family. Many people are ignoring #COVID19 warnings and guidelines, thereby exposing themselves and others to the virus.

“We are well into the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Yesterday, (Tuesday) Lagos scarily recorded its highest number of infection in one day 712.

“We have already recorded a frightening spike in infection cases.  This spike brings positive cases to a total of 32,720 in Lagos alone.

“This second wave comes with severe symptoms, and the higher number of positive cases we detect, the higher number of casualties we’re bound to record. We do not want this, but for this to be avoided, we must be intentional and cautious.

“We also do not want to go into another lockdown. It is important that you wear your masks, avoid crowded areas, wash or sanitize your hands regularly, and practice social distancing.

“2021 will only work for us if we take #COVID19 seriously and follow the guidelines laid down by Lagos State Ministry of Health and Presidential Task Force, PTF, on COVID-19.

“We simply cannot afford to be complacent at this time.”

On the likelihood of second lockdown in Lagos, an epicentre of COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, against the Federal Government ruling out lockdown, Vanguard authoritatively, gathered that Sanwo-Olu, the Incident Commander, on Tuesday, summoned all relevant authorities, particularly health experts to a crucial meeting at Lagos House Marina, where they deliberated on the alarming rate of COVID-19 and the need to stop it at all costs before getting out of hands.

According to a government source who confided in Vanguard, said, “As we speak (on Tuesday noon), the governor is meeting with health authorities and relevant members of the State Executive Council over the unabated rising cases of COVID-19 in the state.

“Therefore, as one of pragmatic measures to drastically curb the wave the state government may likely impose second lockdown soon, mildly though if present situation persists. That’s all I can say about it for now.”

Meanwhile, it was gathered that

Sowore, Others Brought To Court In Handcuffs Like Criminals

Human rights’ activist, Omoyele Sowore, and four others were on Tuesday morning brought before the Magistrates’ Court sitting in Wuse, Abuja. The activists are standing trial on police trumped-up charges of alleged criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly and inciting public disturbance.
Marshal expressed disappointment over the decision by the prison officials to handcuff his clients like criminals.

The current detention of Sowore is not the first time the activist would be arrested and detained by the Nigerian government.
For instance, Sowore was arrested on August 3, 2019, in Lagos by the Department of State Services, Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency with a history of repression.

He was moved to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja where he was illegally detained for 144 days despite different court orders for his release.
The DSS accused Sowore of baseless crimes like money laundering. The security agency claimed he was plotting to overthrow President Muhammadu Buhari even though it failed to produce evidence to substantiate its claim.

He was subsequently arraigned for treason but had pleaded not guilty. The activist cum journalist was granted bail in November 2020, but part of the conditions restricts him to Abuja.

“Went to church without underwear and sat in front seat” People React As Lady Reveals How She Arrived Church

In recent times, we’ve seen how young people especially Christian brought up young adults have taken the faith lackadaisically. As they have either mocked or tagged believers hypocrites and on the other hand, some have also taken their vile/polluted lifestyles into the church.

This can be observed in how promiscuous they dress, talk and even carry themselves. In essence one can’t necessarily differentiate them from the unbelievers.

A young and rather stunning young lady has drawn so much attention to herself after posting what can only be described as a thirst trap on twitter. Although her caption is seemingly true, she got many a man drooling.

Known simply as Wandz, the middle-aged looking lady dropped on twitter two photos of herself, saying she had forgotten to wear her underpants before stepping out to church in a tight mini skirt and an armless white crop top.
This obviously called the attention of many, some said her dressing was an intentional plot to confuse well meaning Christian men and even disrupt the flow of the spirit of God in church.

Another added that they believe she even sat in front for her evil agendas to be achieved. Literally she was tagged a Jezebel for her dressing.

4 Shot, Vehicles Vandalised, Shops Looted as Bandits Terrorise Ibadan Residents

Four people were, yesterday, shot while property worth millions of naira were destroyed in bloody violence in some parts of Ibadan, Oyo State capital. The violence, which occurred at Onideore, Ogundipe Street, in Oranyan area of the city forced some residents to vacate their residence for fear of being attacked.
It was gathered that of the four people shot, only a young man had life-threatening injuries and was rushed to the University College Hospital, Ibadan, others sustained gunshot injuries, which were treated traditionally.
According to the source, the youth numbering about 100 started the violence around 8 pm on Sunday. When Vanguard called the National President of Soludero Hunters Association, Oba Wahab Ajijola Anabi, he confirmed that it took the combined efforts of hunters and Amotekun operatives to quell the violence.

He alleged that a man simply identified as Asoleke’s son was one of those people who shot at innocent people.
“Yes, it is true. We have even reported the incident at Idi Aro Police station. I saw the boys. The young boys carried two guns. They intended shooting one person but the bullets scattered and hit three other people. When they came at 8 pm, we, hunters, drove them away. I thought they had gone only for them to regroup.
“They came back around midnight. We were helpless because they were running into densely populated areas where we couldn’t shoot. We, again, observed that they were young boys. How would it sound if we started shooting them? We were just shooting into the air to scare them.

“It was when Amotekun operatives supported us that we were able to drive them away. But, they had vandalised four vehicles and looted seven shops.” Also, in another place, hoodlums hijacked the worship of Ogun (god of iron) at Beyerunka area on December 31, 2020, and looted seven shops where N800,000 belonging to one Badmus Yusuf was stolen from his shop. Also, one of the hunters identified as Amada had his phone snatched.

Amotekun Officer Didn’t Shoot Policeman Intentionally – Oyo Commandant

The Oyo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, has said its officer, Ibrahim Ogundele, did not intentionally shoot a police constable, Yekini Fatai. SaharaReporters had earlier reported that Ogundele shot Fatai at a carnival in Sanga, Oyo State on Saturday.
Amotekun Operative Shoots Policeman In Oyo. In a statement on Monday, the Commandant of the security outfit in the state, Olayinka Olayanju, said the officer's action was not intentional.

According to the statement issued through Ayolola Adedoja, spokesman for the security outfit, Amotekun Corps were invited by the police to join them in dismantling a carnival stage, which the police had warned against.Olayanju said in the process, the Amotekun officer’s gun accidentally discharged and the bullet hit the policeman in the thigh.

He said, “Amotekun operatives were invited by the police to join hands with them to dismantle a carnival stage. The carnival was held against the earlier warnings to the organisers by the police.
“The carnival stage was dismantled unchallenged, but after this, the gun with Ogundele Ibrahim discharged accidentally and hit the community police officer in the thigh. The cause of this (accidental discharge) has not been known.

“Yekini Fatai was rushed to the General Hospital in Oyo town where he was treated and has been discharged.
“I want to state categorically here that there was no feud of any kind between Ogundele Ibrahim and Yekini Fatai to have warranted shooting him.” Olayanju confirmed that the Amotekun officer had been handed over to the police for proper investigation into the incident. He added that Amotekun had come under unfair criticisms despite the efforts of the agency to make the state safe.

Again, Buhari govt announces New Hike in Electricity Tariffs Across All Bands

Two months after the Buhari administration controversially imposed an increase in electricity tariffs, a new hike has been approved for power distribution companies (DisCos), effective from January 1, 2021.

Nigeria’s power regulator, NERC, had in a revised Multi Year Tariff Order (MYTO) on December 30, approved over 50 per cent hike in energy bills, Daily Trust reported on Tuesday.

Under the new arrangement, the revised Service Based Tariff (SBT) will witness increased billing for customers under bands A, B and C (those with guaranteed minimum daily supply of between 12 to 20 hours) and bands D and E customers (those who see a few hours of power or no supply at all in a day).

NERC had in November implemented a 10 percent discount for band A – C customers, while exempting band D and E customers from tariff hikes.

This followed the reliefs sought by organised labour, which had threatened industrial action to protest the tariff increment. The immediate reliefs were, however, bound to be reviewed at the end of the year (2020).

The new tariff order NERC/225/2020 signed by NERC boss Sanusi Garba, hinged the increment on Nigeria’s 14.9 percent inflation rate (recorded in November), as well as the depreciation of the naira against the dollar in the foreign exchange market (N379.4/$1 as of December 29, 2020).

It also attributed the hike to “available generation capacity, U.S. inflation rate of 1.22 percent and the Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) of the power firms.”

The new tariffs are expected to rise even higher mid-2021 upon implementation of a Cost Reflective Tariff (CRT), billed to commence from June to December this year, Daily Trust reported, citing the NERC Order

Primate Ayodele’s Prophecy About Tinubu’s Health Is Gradually Coming To Pass

Primate Ayodele’s prophecy about Tinubu’s health is gradually coming to pass.

OnyxNews Nigeria reports that Primate Ayodele who is the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church has released prophecy regarding the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s health and his ambition for 2023 presidential election.

Recall that around the month of August 2020, Primate Ayodele had warned that Tinubu should care and pray for his health instead of his ambition.

Primate Ayodele had also prophesied that Tinubu will be betrayed by the Presidency further noted that Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari won’t give enough support for the APC National leader in realization of his presidential ambition.

Then in September last year, the popular prophet insisted and described during a press conference held in September 2020 which was attended by our reporter that Tinubu’s ambition to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a good development in the country’s political system. But the APC national leader needs to take care of his health status first.

The Primate added that it is only God who can keep him till 2023 and beyond.

Primate Ayodele said: “Tinubu’s plan to be president is good. He has what it takes. But he should go and take care of his health. He should take care of his health. It is only God that can keep Tinubu before and beyond 2023. I love him; I want to support him in prayers. He would make a very good president. But his health may not allow it.”

Earlier on Sunday, 3 January 2021, OnyxNews Nigeria gathered that the National leader of All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was allegedly critically ill and has been hospitalized at a hospital in France.
