For flying the Nigerian flag contrary to a directive issued by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), unknown gunmen have stormed Ajali Police Station and killed police personnel on duty.

POB recently declared “Operation No Nigeria Flag in Biafraland” and that October 1st, 2021, as a sit-at-home day for all its members in the South East.

It also threatened a one-month lockdown in the region following the detention of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is in detention.

In a statement signed last Saturday, by Emma Powerful, IPOB media and publicity secretary, the group declared this year’s Independence Day, as “Operation No Nigeria Flag in Biafraland”.

The IPOB spokesperson said: “IPOB has declared 1st of October 2021 total shutdown in Biafraland as a sign of our rejection of Nigeria and there shall be no movement in Biafraland on this day. Also IPOB has declared from today 25th September, 2021 that all Nigerian flag mounted anywhere in Biafraland must be brought down, Banks exceptional, IPOB leadership will communicate to Banks directly and give them reason they must peacefully bring down Nigeria flag in their banking premises before we do it ourselves in our own way.”

Anambra state has witnessed killings of innocent citizens including security personnel by unknown gunmen taking orders from IPOB.

Chike Akunyili’s son narrates how dad was gruesomely killed

Obumneme, a son of Dr. Chike Akunyili, says his father was killed on Monday evening when he was returning from a commemorative lecture in honour of his late wife, Dora.

Dr. Chike is the widower of a former Director-General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

NEWS5G Network For Deployment In Nigeria By January 2022 — Pantami

Dr. Isa Pantami, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, announced that the country’s Fifth Generation (5G) network will be operational by January 2022, assisting in the surveillance of public infrastructure degradation.

Pantami stated this during a town hall meeting in Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital, to address the vandalism of electrical and communications facilities.

The ceremony, which was organized by the Ministry of Information and Culture, was attended by Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno and his Deputy, Mr Usman Kadafur, as well as other stakeholders, according to the Nigerian News Agency.

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, led the other panelists in the town hall discussion.

Pantami, who was represented by Mr Ubale Maska, Nigeria Communication Commission Commissioner for Technical Services, said the 5G network was recently approved by the Federal Executive Council for increased connectivity.

While the technology would increase monitoring of criminal elements causing damage to public infrastructure across Nigeria, he stressed that other measures should be put in place to apprehend them and bring them to justice.

The minister claimed that there were over 50,000 telecommunication installations around the country, making it difficult to man manually unless contemporary technology was deployed.

From January to July 2021, there were approximately 16,000 recorded outages by mobile network carriers MTN, Globacom, Airtel, and 9Mobile.

According to him, the outages were caused by fiber cutting, access denial, and theft, causing service disruption in the impacted locations.

He stated that the critical infrastructure facility’s security, economic vibrancy, and public health and safety were all key to the nation’s security, economic vitality, and public health and safety.

He bemoaned the fact that, as a result of the persisting insecurity and tensions in sections of the North-East, telecoms installations that were vandalized in terrorist attacks had not been rebuilt.

He also asked the National Assembly to pass the Critical Infrastructure Protection Bill as soon as possible so that it may be submitted to the President for approval.

Big Brother Naija Shine Ya Eye housemate, Whitemoney, says that he has disappointed himself on the show.

He said this on Monday night, day 58 of the show, as he settled the disagreement he had with Queen.

ISIS’s leader in north Africa who had $5m bounty on his head for killing US troops is assassinated

Adnan Abou Walid al Sahraoui ordered the 2017 ambush

A notorious ISIS leader with a $5million dollar price tag on his head for killing American special forces soldiers has been assassinated by the French military in West Africa, it was announced today. 

Adnan Abou Walid al Sahraoui, who was in his late 40s, was ‘neutralised’ four years after ordering a notorious ambush in Niger which led to the deaths of Army Sgt David Johnson, 25; Staff Sgt Bryan Black, 35; Staff Sgt Jeremiah Johnson, 39; and Staff Sgt Dustin Wright, 29.

Four Nigerien troops were also killed in the attack, and two American soldiers and eight Nigerien soldiers were severely wounded.

In the early hours of Thursday morning, French President Emmanuel confirmed that Al-Sahraoui, who also used the nom de guerre Lehbib Ould, was finally dead.

Mr Macron wrote in a Tweet: ‘Adnan Abou Walid al Sahraoui, leader of the terrorist group Islamic State in the Greater Sahara was neutralised by French forces.

‘This is another major success in our fight against terrorist groups in the Sahel,’ said Mr Macron, referring to a vast area of mainly desert land in Africa where groups such as ISIS and Al-Qaeda operate.

There was no initial information as to what was used to kill Al-Sahraoui, or where or when the attack happened, but an Élysée Palace spokesman said the ISIS leader ‘was definitely dead’.

In August, Mr Macron said he would be pulling many of his troops out of the Sahel – which covers numerous African countries including Niger and Mali – following anti-terrorist operations codenamed Serval and Barkhane that were leading to mounting French losses.

But the President said special forces supported by airpower including armed drones would continue the hunt for lead terrorists.

Mr Macon wrote in his Al-Sahraoui tweet today: ‘The nation is thinking this evening of all its heroes who died for France in the Sahel, in the Serval and Barkhane operations, of the bereaved families, of all of its wounded.

In October 2019, The U.S. State Department offered ‘up to $5million’ for any information leading to the capture or killing of Al-Sahraoui. 

Morocco-born Al-Sahraoui claimed responsibility for the ambush in January 2018, as he built up his reputation within ISIS.

Adnan Abou Walid Al-Sahraoui also admitted to ‘personally ordering’ the assassination of six French aid workers and their local guide and driver in August 2020.

All were murdered by a team of ISIS gunman on motorbikes as after they set off on a visit to the Kouré Giraffe Reserve, in Niger.

Al-Sahrawi started his adult life fighting a guerrilla war against Moroccan forces in the western Sahara, before joining various jihadi groups that merged with ISIS in 2015.

He was said to have been lightly wounded in a fire fight with Al-Qaeda loyalists a year later, but continued to lead operations, mainly against government forces seen as being pro-west.

Al-Sahrawi, who was married, came close to being killed by the French in February 2018, close to Méneka, in Mali, but ‘escaped on foot in the middle of the night with some of his men,’ according to intelligence sources in Paris.

Presidency 2023: APC shocks Jonathan

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has shocked former President Goodluck Jonathan whose speculated plan to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling APC has dominated public discourse in the past few days. The planned defected was associated with the desire for the APC presidential ticket for the 2023 general elections.

Former President Jonathan was alleged to have been under pressure from APC leaders in northern Nigeria to defect from the PDP to the APC. The terms of the defection negotiation, according to some members of the ruling party, was indicated with arrangements to deliver the APC 2023 presidential ticket to Jonathan, who in the calculation of the northern APC leader, would be serving for one tenure after the expiration of the eight years two tenures of President Buhari, and power may return to the north. However, the National Secretary of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, in a statement on Friday, sent a warning signal to the former president that there will be no automatic ticket for any party member, old and new members, aspiring for the APC ticket to contest any elective position in 2023.

Akpanudoedehe was caught in the political net of confusion when he earlier said defectors to the ruling APC would be granted “founding member status” and could contest election on the party’s platform. The interim national secretary had stated that the party will welcome former President Jonathan with delight, disclosing the waiver awaiting his defection from the PDP.

Akpanudoedehe, however, explained on Friday that, “The waiver is definitely not specific to anyone as being misconstrued and misrepresented in some sections.

“Coming into the party gives no one special status of being an automatic party candidate in any election. All aspirants must undergo the nomination processes outlined by the APC constitution.”

Akpanudoedehe had referred to the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) resolution of December 8, 2020, declaring: “the committee granted waivers to persons who recently joined the party and those desirous of joining the party in the nearest future to contest for positions in the APC and as party flag bearers in general elections.”

He maintained: “…New members will enjoy all the benefits and privileges accruable by virtue of their membership of the party.

“So, they will be able to contest for positions in the party.

“They will be able to contest elections without any requirement of being members for a number of years or period of time.”

Akpanudoedehe further clarified: “For the records, in my recent television interview reaction to the rumoured plans by former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the APC, my statement was that NEC resolution was a blanket waiver to all new APC entrants.”

He reiterated that new members – by the NEC resolution – will enjoy all the benefits and privileges accruable by virtue of their membership of the party.

Akpanudoedehe had celebrated that the defection of Jonathan to the APC will be a big advantage to the party.

Meanwhile, the speculated negotiation of northern APC leader with former President Jonathan has bot been dispelled. The promise for the 2023 presidential ticket has also not been dismissed by the stakeholders involved in the inducement and horse trading.

Terrorists hoist flag in two Kaduna villages

Terrorists fleeing military operations in Zamfara State have invaded Saulawa and Damari communities in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

Multiple sources confirmed that the gunmen on motorcycles suspected to be members of the Ansaru terrorist organisation arrived the two communities in their hundreds and later hoisted flags in Damari and Saulawa villages .

Damari and Saulawa are two among many villages in the Birnin Gwari local government area overrun by terrorists and bandits with no presence of security operatives.

Sources said the two villages had a few years ago reached a pact with bandits to allow them freedom to farm while bandits were given access to markets and other amenities in the communities.

The agreement, however, faltered in February when gunmen invaded several communities including Saulawa and Damari and killed scores of people.

Speaking withDaily Trust, a youth leader from Dogon Dawa town of Birnin Gwari said some residents of Damari had been sneaking out and relocating to Zaria for safety while others had relocated their families while the men remained in the community to farm.

“Over 400 of them arrived on Tuesday, they have overtaken Saulawa and Damari and they have hoisted their flags, they have not attacked anyone but people are scared and they are leaving,” he said.

Also, a fuel vendor at Dogon Dawa confirmed the presence of the strange group in Saulawa village and also confirmed that villagers are sneaking out of the villages to Karau-Karau, Dogon Dawa and Zaria.

“As we speak, the group members who we suspect to be Ansaru members are still in Saulawa village and Damari and reports from those villages is that two flags have been hoisted; one in Damari and the other in Saulawa.”

He said apart from the Damari axis, the old Kuyello in the same LGA had equally become a danger zone as the group had taken advantage of the bad terrain to carry out their nefarious activities, preaching to the locals in an attempt to woo them to their side.

A senior security source in Kaduna toldDaily Trustthat reports of mass influx of terrorist had reached security operatives and lamented why the military operation in Zamfara State was not simultaneous to include neighbouring states.

“What we expected was that as the operation is taking place in Zamfara, security agencies would been strategically stationed in these frontline states to block the terrorists from fleeing to other states, but sadly the operation as it appears is not simultaneous,” he said.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, did not answer calls to his phone and is yet to reply messages sent via text and WhatAspp as at the time of filing this report. However, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, said the command had not received a report on the hoisting of flags in Damari and Saulawa but assured that the Police was strategizing with other sister agencies to tackle the menace of insecurity. Taking social media, Uche Edochie shared his scary experience with the virus and revealed that 80% of his lungs got damaged

The young Edochie who is still recovering from the illness noted that he spent over N6 million during the course of his treatment

Veteran Nollywood actor, Pete Edochie’s son, Uche, has contracted COVID-19 and taken to social media to share his scary experience.

Uche Edochie shared a lengthy post on his Instagram page where he recounted how he discovered he had the deadly virus and how it eventually took a toll on him.

According to the young Edochie, when he initially fell sick, he thought it was malaria and began treating that. However, by the time he realized it could have been something else, it was too late and 80% of his lungs were already damaged.

Uche noted that he was on oxygen for days and could not eat or breathe. According to him, it was the first time in his life that he had no control over anything.

The actor’s son also reassured fans that he was now fully cured of the virus even though his lungs still needed months to completely heal.

However, Uche also complained that treating COVID-19 cost a fortune and that he spent N350,000 per day at the hospital, making his total treatment cost over N6 million.

He wrote:

“Curing covid costs a fortune too and that is a problem. That is often why people die. The facility where I was treated charges N350,000 a day. I was there for twelve days before being moved to First Cardiology Centre in Ikoyi for my lung and heart rehabilitation. Total cost of my treatment so far has exceeded six million naira. I know a guy whose covid treatment cost seventeen million naira.”

He then urged the government to invest in affordable treatment or a number of people will lose their lives.

Yul Edochie shares rare family photo taken in 1994

Nollywood actor Yul Edochie enjoys sharing bits and portions of his life with fans on social media and he just did that again.

The actor who hopes to become Nigeria's president someday shared an old family photo which he said was taken all the way back in 2004.

Yul had joined other family members including his veteran actor father, Pete, for the family photo. He was seen standing with his elder brothers at the back while Pete and their mum occupied the front position.

A Nigerian was killed in Brussels working as a prostitute. Now, a street will be named after her

Eunice Osayande arrived in the Belgian capital Brussels in 2016 after being promised work and a better future in Europe. Her journey from Nigeria to Brussels was tough. With some other girls, Osayande did not only have to cross over to Italy on a rubber boat but she was also reportedly raped several times in the course of the journey.

The gang of men she traveled with had told her they were acting agents who would make her a movie star. But they were actually human traffickers. Upon arrival in Brussels, Osayande was immediately forced into prostitution. She was told she owed the smuggling gang $52,000 for her transit, rent and pimps.

In June 2018, about two years after she arrived in Brussels, she was stabbed 17 times to death by a disgruntled client in the Gare du Nord district. She was 23. The client who was accused of stabbing her was a 17-year-old man. He was picked up two weeks later. In January this year, four people involved in Osayande’s smuggling were sentenced to between 33 months and four years in prison.

According to the BBC, Osayande contacted a sex worker charity some weeks before her death to complain that she often faced violence while working. She was scared of reporting to the police because she did not have proper papers. The migrant sex worker community in Brussels, which goes through similar challenges including robberies and beatings, held protests a year after Osayande’s death demanding better working conditions.

In Belgium, prostitution is not illegal. However, there are no unified national rules, BBC reported. “Eunice’s death has been extremely distressing, especially for undocumented migrants in the area where she worked,” Maxime Maes, director of the UTSOPI sex workers union in Brussels that organized the march, told BBC.

“The area has seen increasing violence and the most marginalized women are targeted,” Maes added.

To bring attention to the plight of these sex workers and other women who are victims of human trafficking, sexual violence and femicides, the City of Brussels has said it will name a new street after Osayande. The street will carry her eponym and will connect the Quai de Willebroeck and the Quai des Péniches, nearby the North Station, behind which Osayande was murdered, according to The Brussels Times.

“Inclusive feminism is about the rights and struggles of women at every social rank. 42% of women between the ages of 16 and 69 have at least once experienced physical sexual violence,” Ans Persoons, Alderman for Urban Planning responsible for toponymy, was quoted by The Brussels Times.

“Among sex workers, the percentage is much higher. The struggle to bring these hallucinatory high figures down deserves more attention and urgency. And that is precisely why Eunice Osayande is being given a street today,” she added.

The street will be the first named after a sex worker in the country. The decision also forms parts of a wider campaign to recognize more women in Belgium.

“Until now, we have always chosen striking – yet often forgotten – women with exceptional talent or a remarkable achievement. But for me, feminism is not only about women who excel,” Persoons said. Osayande’s street will be officially opened in a few months.

In Brussels’ North Quarter, sub-Saharan sex work grew in the early 2000s, according to an ethnographic study on sex work in the area by the University of Ghent (UGent). The majority of Nigerian women in the neighborhood come from Edo and many arrived in Europe via networks.
