Court of Appeal, Federal High Court refuse Saraki’s prayers to stop Tribunal

The Court of Appeal has dismissed the ex-parte application by Senate President, Bukola Saraki, seeking to set aside the order made on Friday by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) issuing bench warrant for Saraki’s arrest.
It said it cannot interfere with the proceedings pending at the lower court.
It will be in the interest of notice for the respondents to be put on notice.
Consequently the ex-parte application refused and the motion on notice set down for hearing on September 29
Justice Armed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, in another ruling just delivered, refused a similar application by Saraki.
He adjourned to September 30 for the hearing of the substantive suit by Saraki, challenging the competence of charge before the CCT and the preliminary objection filed by the CCT, Code of Conduct Tribunal and Federal Ministry of Justice.
Justice Mohammed held that, in view of the constitutional and radical nature of the issues raised in the respondents’ objection, it was reasonable for the court not to waste time on interlocutory applications.

Fire Outbreak at LIRS Headquarters Alausa (PHOTOS)

There was pandemonium this morning as fire gutted the office of the Lagos Inland Revenue Service, LIRS located on the third floor of Good Shepherd building, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. Hundreds of workers working in the four-storey Good Shepherd build rushed in one accord to hurriedly vacate the building.
The fire is said to have started around 8:45am and razed a room in the LIRS office. Thick smoke was noticed in the building which resulted in panic and exodus of workers out of the building Staff of Eko Bank, also using the ground floor of the building abandoned their work and raced out to avert being caught in the fire.
Fire service men came to the scene on time and were able to quench the fire and restricted it to a room.

As at 10:00 am hundreds of workers in the building were still outside until the fire was put out.
General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Michael Akindele told PM News that the Command Centre in Alausa was alerted about the fire at 8:45am, saying. That the fire service and LASEMA responded swiftly. “The fire service got here three minutes after they got the distress call and were able to curtail the fire to only one office,” he said. He said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained as investigation was still ongoing but noted that a split air condition was noticed to be on fire, which might likely be the cause.
