Nigerians have reacted to the news of a pastor who was caught with charms in Cross River state. The pastor, Rev Paul Abam, who is the head Pastor of Word Based Prophetic and Deliverance Ministry was said to have been caught planting charms in his cousin's land so as to extort him.
According to Reubenabati.com.ng, a close family source said the Pastor told his cousin that he needed money to uproot a charm someone planted in his land. He was however traced and caught redhanded with some fetish stuffs at a shrine in Itigidi after a resident of the community saw him planting the said charm in the land.
The pictures of the disgraced cleric circulating online show him in an attire made of what appears to be dried leaves and stalks. He held a board showing the charms he was caught with. In the background, there was a multitude of people seen.
Oftentimes we heard of some Nigerian pastors caught with charm (juju). In fact, we've heard from traditional healers who brag that some pastors patronize them for "powers". In Nigeria, one of the gimmicks that can get any Nigerian pastor a large congregation is making claims of miracles.
Given that Nigerians love miracles, signs and wonders, most churches have capitalised on that. Almost every church banner or signboard in Nigeria advertises some kind of miracle and deliverance.
We remember an audio recording that leaked some years ago of Abuja based billionaire pastor, Joshua Iginla. From the recording, a voice alleged to be that of the pastor was heard seeking spiritual powers from a woman who was heard speaking some incantations.
