The Armed Forces have been given the marching order to take the fight to the insurgents - Buhari reacts to Zabarmari massacre

President Muhammadu Buhari has again reacted to the killing of 43 rice farmers by Boko Haram insurgents in Zabarmari community of Borno state.

The Nigerian President in a statement released on Monday November 30, said the Armed Forces have been given the marching order to take the fight to the insurgents, not on a one-off, but on a continuous basis.

Buhari who described the massacre by Boko Haram in Zabarmari as senseless, barbaric, gruesome and cowardly, added that the federal government will be intensifying its cooperation with neighbouring countries on bilateral and multilateral levels, to ensure that there is no hiding place for the terrorists.

The statement read;

Nothing is more important than ensuring the security of lives and property of Nigerians. Everything is secondary when security is at stake. I will ensure that more resources are made available to the military and other security agencies to prosecute the war against terrorism.

As we mourn all the lives lost in Zabarmari, the Armed Forces have been given the marching order to take the fight to the insurgents, not on a one-off, but on a continuous basis, until we root out the terrorists.

We will intensify our cooperation with neighbouring countries on bilateral and multilateral levels, to ensure that there is no hiding place for the terrorists.

As I noted earlier, the massacre by Boko Haram in Zabarmari is nothing short of senseless, barbaric, gruesome and cowardly. It reinforces our resolve to root out all forms of insurgency and insecurity not just in Borno but everywhere across Nigeria.

#ZabarmariMassacre: Boko Haram Beheads 43 Rice Farmers In Most Gruesome Execution

Boko Haram fighters have beheaded at least forty farmers in Borno state in most grisly execution since the group's terror campaign against Nigeria in over a decade.
The terrorists also abducted an unspecified number of farmers during the attack.

They were ambushed by the terrorists on their way to their rice farms which they were harvesting before the surprise attack happened.

The attack occurred around Marrabati and Hammayya villages, near Zabarmari in Jere local government of Borno state on Saturday morning.
Civilian Joint Task Force sources say sixty of the farmers were gathered before the assailants shot at close range or beheaded their victims.

Prof Mahmood Yakubu Engages In 'Rent A Crowd' To Boost His Screening At The Nigerian Senate
It is not clear how many of the farmers were taken away, or how many were spared but a total of sixty persons were assembled before the bloodletting.
Sources cited in Channels TV's reporting say the location, which is a distance from the last Jere town with inhabitants, is a known stronghold of the insurgents.

Local government elections were conducted in the state on Saturday, with voter apathy witnessed in some parts of the state.

It is not clear if the ill-fated farmers cast their vote before proceeding to meet their deaths.
This horrific incident has renewed Nigerians' demand for replacement of the country's security chiefs -- some of whom tenure has since lapsed -- for incompetence.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, reacting to the incident said, "Heartbreaking. Words fail me. The lives of our citizens should be worth much more than this. The rejig of the nation's security architecture is long overdue. May their souls rest in peace and may their families be comforted."

I Gave Military Chiefs Everything They Needed - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari had meanwhile, reacted to the incident, decrying the deadly carnage inflicted on Borno residents by Boko Haram insurgents, saying it should not have happened as he had given needed resources to the armed forces.

At least 43 farmers were reportedly killed after Boko Haram terrorists ambushed rice farmers in Zabarmari, Jere Local Government Area, this weekend.
Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu said the president sympathised with those affected by the attack, lamenting that he had given enough support to the armed forces to protect civilian lives and territory.

The president has long rejected calls to sack service chiefs under whom insecurity had worsened since he appointed them upon assumption of office in 2015.

Instead, Mr. Buhari has continued to postpone the retirement of the service chiefs, including Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai, under whose command the Nigerian Army has conducted some of the most horrific rights abuses since the Civil War.

FULL PRESIDENTIAL STATEMENT:PRESIDENT BUHARI CONDEMNS AS INSANE, BOKO HARAM KILLING OF FARMERS IN BORNO STATE.

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed grief over the killing of farmers on rice fields at Zabarmari, in Jere Local Government of Borno State, describing the terrorist killings as insane.

“I condemn the killing of our hardworking farmers by terrorists in Borno State. The entire country is hurt by these senseless killings. My thoughts are with their families in this time of grief. May their souls Rest In Peace.”

President Buhari said the government had given all the needed support to the armed forces “to take all necessary steps to protect the country’s population and its territory.”

Harvest of deaths in Owukpa as strange disease trouble Benue community

In a single day, the once serene community of Owukpa, had to bury at least five persons who fell to a strange disease believed to be Yellow Fever.

DAILY POST had earlier reported the death of 17 persons, and with the latest that has sent the community into panic, the figure has now risen to 22 deaths in less than a month.

Recently, the Benue State Government sent a team of health experts to the state on a fact-finding mission to determine the cause of illness and deaths. Following the outcome of the investigation, an intervention team was sent to the affected communities in Owukpa and Otukpa where the people were vaccinated against Yellow Fever.

The team was led by a renowned Epidemiologist and consultant, Prof Stephen Abah.

But despite the vaccination exercise, more deaths have been recorded, creating the doubt that the disease is Yellow Fever, as some community leaders believe there are forces behind the strange disease and deaths and cannot be linked to orthodox medicine.

On Thursday, the 27th of November 2020, about 3 persons died from the strange illness and have been laid to rest. No fewer than two bodies believed to have died from the ailment were equally conveyed to Owukpa as at Friday afternoon.

According to a community leader who pleaded not to be mentioned in print, the atmosphere in Owukpa right now is characterized by fear, frustration and mourning. Who will bury who right now? It’s getting to a point of all man to himself. We are tired,’’ he lamented.

DAILY POST spoke to many residents of Owukpa and the mood was the same. The people are now apprehensive over who is next on the line as the disease continues to penetrate villages. No fewer than 30 people are currently on admission across ill-equipped private hospitals in Otukpa, the Ogbadibo headquarters.

Mostly worried are young people as 70 to 80 percent of the victims of the strange disease are youths. Some health experts contacted have questioned why older people with weak immune system are spared, while the disease hit young people with stronger immune system.

Recall that the Honourable member representing Itabono ward 1 in Ogbadibo Local Govt Area of Benue State, Hon. Patrick Ejeh, also known as Pataba had earlier raised the alarm over the outbreak of the epidemic .
Owukpa community cannot boast of a single hospital or health centres. In the entire district, no single functional hospital is standing, no government hospital and no standard health centres are found around. Avoidable deaths are common in Owukpa as people often die of minor illnesses, unless they are taken to far away Okpoga or Otukpa for treatment. This has become a major concern to well-meaning indigenes of the community on how the people can survive this epidemic with no functional hospital for even emergency treatment.

N’Delta militants make fresh demands, threaten attacks on oil facilities

A new coalition of 36 militant groups under the aegis of Continuous Emancipation of Niger Delta, which recently attacked gas and crude oil pipelines in Bayelsa State, on Friday reeled out six demands for the Federal Government which they said should be quickly handled to avert continued “destructive attacks” on oil and gas facilities in the country.

The demands, contained in an electronic mail by CEND’s General Officer Commanding, ‘General’ River Lord (aka Adaka Bor), and obtained by journalists in Warri, had virtually all the seven-point demands of South-South governors and leaders as presented to the Federal Government’s delegation on Tuesday in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

The only addition is the demand by CEND that the Federal Government should henceforth pay the 13 per cent derivation directly to oil and gas producing communities.

CEND in its demands called for the relocation of the headquarters of all oil and gas companies operating in the Niger Delta to the region, as well as the demilitarisation of the entire Niger Delta. It also called for fiscal and true federalism.

Other demands of CEND are “the repositioning of the Niger Delta Development Commission, and the Presidential Amnesty Programme, in line with its core mandate and community participation.”

Among those in the coalition spread across the region are Supreme Egbesu Resource Fighters, Niger Delta Resource Control Force, Emancipation of Niger Delta, Reformed Movement for Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Niger Delta Adaka Boro Force for Resource Control, and Niger Delta Joint Task Force.

The group said, “The new coalition of 36 militant groups, Continuous Emancipation for the Niger Delta, has made bold its threat to carry out destructive attacks on oil and gas facilities across the Niger Delta region,” even as the group has claimed responsibility for the bombing of gas and crude oil pipelines in Ikarama community in Yenagoa Council Area of Bayelsa State.”

CEND said, “The pipelines which were completely destroyed by the attacks is operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company, and the Nigerian Agip Oil Company in Ikarama community, Bayelsa State.

“We are prepared to carry out our threats to the letter without any iota of fear as we have the capacity to bring the oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta to rubbles if our demands are not met.

“In the coming days, there will be series of attacks on major oil and gas installations in the Niger Delta simultaneously because they are well prepared to push the pawn to the other side of the board without fear and harassment from security agencies and the federal government.

“We want to warn all foreign nationals that this is the time to leave the Niger Delta region, as the attacks which will be total in the coming days, will not spare them. All foreign embassies should as a matter of urgency evacuate their citizens.

“All our field commanders have been briefed not to show mercy on any oil and gas installations no matter its location until the federal government meets our demands which are critical to the emancipation of the long-neglected region.

“If we do not act now, our children will ask us questions that we will not have answers to, our communities will go into extinction because of underdevelopment, environment degradation, and pollution.

It added, “The struggle will not end until we see genuine efforts to develop the region, imagine the East-West road that connects the six states of the Niger Delta is in a deplorable state even worse than a death trap and if crude oil was being transported by road, probably our roads would have been better.

“The Federal Government and international oil companies are only bothered about how to lift crude oil without any present or future plan to develop the region. The blood of Isaac Adaka Boro and Ken Saro-Wiwa will not be in vain.”

Buhari approves salary increment for police

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved salary increment for men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force.

The salary increment, GCFRNG learnt, cuts across all ranks of the force.

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, disclosed this on Thursday during his visit to the Ogun State Police Command.

Adamu’s visit to Ogun State was part of his efforts to boost the morale of police officers after the attack on them during the recent End SARS protest.

While addressing officers of the command, Adamu urged them not to be demoralised by the attacks suffered during the protest.

He charged them not to be afraid of carrying out their duties as a result of the criticisms against them, saying no society survives without the police.

Adamu revealed that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration has taken various steps to reform the Nigerian police.

According to him, “The government has approved an extension of health scheme to retired police personnel. The police salary structure has been reviewed upward, affecting all ranks.”

He added further that plans have been concluded for the renovation of police barracks across the nation.

In his words, the State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, said the IGP’s visit would re-awaken the dampened morale of the police officers in the state.

Ajogun explained that, about seven divisional headquarters were vandalized in the state, while the DCO of Atan-Ota division, DSP Ogbeche, lost his life.

He added that the police in Ogun have since returned to their duty posts, saying it is their duty to protect lives and property.

Kano Sharia Police bans ‘Black Friday’, says it’s ‘immoral’

The Kano State Hisbah Board has prohibited the conduct of the planned holiday clearance sales tagged “Black Friday” by a radio station in the state.

The religious police, in a November 26 letter to the management of Cool FM 96.9 Kano, warned the station’s management that the demography of the state’s residents is predominantly Muslim, hence considers “Friday as Holy Day.”

The Hisbah corps subsequently demanded an immediate retraction of the “Black Friday” tag.

It added that the religious squad “will be around for surveillance purposes with a view to avoiding occurrence of any immoral activities” in the state.
Black Friday is a special shopping period when retailers offer promoted sales to customers. But the sale may be hampered in Kano, where members of the religious police have banned sale of alcoholic drinks, restricted social interaction between men and women, amongst other measures.

Buhari promises to appoint more Nigerian women

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday in Abuja assured of more inclusion of women in governance.

He also reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to end child marriage and boost girl-child education.

Buhari spoke when a group of Nigerian women led by Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, visited him at the State House.

The Nigerian leader said he understood that when women hold strategic leadership positions both in government and the private sector, development will be accelerated.

“I want to reassure you that this administration remains resolute to not only meet the 35 percent National Gender Policy, but to exceed it across key decision making roles in government.’’

He advocated that the on-going Constitutional Review processes at all levels institutionalize accountability mechanisms and frameworks in the implementation of the National Gender Policy.

Argentinian football legend Diego Maradona, 60, dies of a heart attack just two weeks after being released from hospital after treatment for bleed on his brain

Diego Maradona has died at the age of 60 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The football legend had a heart attack at his home just two weeks after leaving hospital where he underwent surgery on a blot clot in his brain.

Maradona, regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, helped Argentina win the World Cup in 1986, the pinnacle of an illustrious career.

He played club football for Boca Juniors, Napoli and Barcelona among others and was adored by millions all over the world for his brilliant skills.

Maradona was responsible for the infamous 'Hand of God' that eliminated England from the 1986 tournament.

His career was also tinged with controversy because of drug and alcohol addiction.
The Argentine news outlet Clarin broke the news on Wednesday afternoon UK time, describing the news of Maradona's passing as having a 'worldwide impact'.

The sad news was confirmed by Maradona's lawyer. Soon, tributes were pouring in from all over the world of football.

Maradona left hospital on November 11 just eight days after being admitted for emergency brain surgery.

The iconic former Argentinian footballer was driven away from the private Olivos Clinic just before 6pm on November 11 as hundreds of fans of photographers tried to get a glimpse of him.

Maradona was hospitalised the previous week and had to have an emergency operation to remove a blood clot from his brain.
Argentinian TV reporters travelling on motorbikes filmed the ambulance carrying him leaving before following the vehicle to transmit every inch of his journey.

His lawyer, Matias Morlahas said that the 60-year-old would continue to receive treatment for alcohol dependency.

Maradona, who was the coach of Gimnasia y Esgrima in his home country, had been admitted to hospital on several occasions since his retirement. He almost died of cocaine-induced heart failure in 2000 and underwent years of rehabilitation.

Maradona, who was well known for having a wild lifestyle during and after his playing days, had a gastric bypass operation to lose weight in 2005 and was once more hospitalised two years later for alcohol-induced hepatitis.

He also fell ill at the last World Cup in Russia, where he was filmed passing out in an executive box when Argentina took on and beat Nigeria in Group D.

Nigeria will exit recession in first quarter of 2021 – Buhari govt assures

The Federal Government has assured that Nigeria would exit recession in the first quarter of 2021.

Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, gave the assurance at the ongoing 26th Nigerian Economic Summit organised by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning, on Monday in Abuja.

The Minister noted that the COVID-19 pandemic caused the current recession in Nigeria.

Ahmed said the current recession followed the pattern across the world where many countries had entered an economic recession due to the pandemic.

“Nigeria is not alone in this, but I will say that Nigeria has outperformed all of these economies in terms of the record of a negative growth,” Ahmed said.

Nigeria had on Saturday slide into its second recession in five years.

Figures by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Nigeria’s economy had contracted by -2.48%.

NBS had disclosed that the current recession was Nigeria’s worst in decades.

Funeral prayers for Zuwaira will hold by 1.30 pm at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Central Mosque on Monday November 23. This will be followed by the burial at the Muslim burial ground along Gombe Road in accordance with Islamic rites.

APC says PDP rattled by visit of its governors to Goodluck Jonathan

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is rattled by the recent visit of some of its governors to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Mr Yekini Nabena, the APC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja while reacting to PDP’s criticism of the development.

He, however, advised the PDP to focus on picking itself up instead of dwelling on frivolities.

The PDP is obviously rattled and disoriented by the recent courtesy visit by some governors of the APC to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“Chairman, APC Caretaker and Extra-ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) and Gov. of Yobe, Mai Mala Buni led the APC delegation.

“At a time when the PDP and its leadership are grappling with a crisis of confidence, one would expect the failed opposition party to focus on picking itself up,” Nabena said.

He added that as a party for all progressives, the APC on its part will continue to consolidate on its national appeal and acceptance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the PDP had, in an earlier statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, criticised the APC governors for visiting the former president.

According to the PDP, the visit to Jonathan by the APC governors is a direct acceptance of the successes recorded by it in building a strong nation with a virile economy.

The PDP said the visit is also a subtle step by APC governors into an agreement that the PDP has the solution to the country’s challenges.

Nigerians angered by Buhari’s reaction, call for impeachment

President Muhammadu Buhari has come under fire following his reaction to the kidnap and murder of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chairman in Nasarawa State, Philip Shekwo.

Buhari, in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, his Spokesman, had said that the nation’s security system must do more to end the incidents of violence in the country.

The late APC Chairman was shot twice leading to his death. Police investigation is expected to determine if this was an assassination or kidnapping-related murder.

In his reaction to the tragic incident, Buhari, while commiserating with the family of the deceased, said: “I strongly condemn the killing of Philip Shekwo. He was kind and jovial. His contribution towards strengthening the party in Nasarawa State will not be forgotten. May his soul Rest in Peace.”

But his reaction didn’t go down well with some social media users who accused the President of having turned the country into a mourning nation.

Some of the reactions sighted by DAILY POST also called on the National Assembly to begin the impeachment process of Buhari.

Here are some comments that greeted the President’s reaction:

@Womanofvoice, “Can somebody who is close to Buhari ask him, what actually prompted his coming back to power after he failed woefully as the Military head of States in 1984/1985?”

@FadeyiTitus, “So he could comment on one dead politician but can’t sympathize with over 10 young youths killed for protesting within their circumference of right.”

@OtyJonah, “Well done Mr. Chief mourner. Continue mourning the blood of the Innocent. Any government that fails in securing the lives and providing welfare for its citizens is a failed government. Now weigh your performance and score yourself. As for me you have failed woefully.”

@Otsey, “This Buhari govt has turned a specialist mourner. It’s only under such a failed govt that 8 ASP will be abducted without any fight back from the govt. All this government does is mourn. What a SHAME.”

@hanameisarik, “Can the national assembly kickstart Buhari’s impeachment? I mean, in 5 years, this man has plunged us into 2 recessions. Insecurity is something else. Monies retrieved as loots have been stolen and achieved nothing. Corruption is still a menace with very weak institutions.”

@womanofvoice, “I have not heard the present Senate or House of Rep talk about impeachment. The insecurities & the level of corruption that have dried our economy is enough to impeach General Buhari out of Aso rock.”

@ReginaldOnyenwe, “”Do more”…what?! Your security agencies are very good at hounding down innocent and defenceless citizens but run away with their tails between their legs when confronted with terrorists. Keep ‘doing more’ looking the other way, when it concerns kidnapers and terrorists.”

@Abraham_onyeke, “A country where the president and the vice is just a spectator in the hands of criminals yet they are releasing Boko Haram back to the society @MBuhari @ProfOsinbajo @DrAhmadLawan @femigbaja you better fix the country when you all can and may his soul RIP.”

@FreedomRebelion, “How sad Nigeria has been turned into a docile nation where leaders only want to be heard and do not like to listen. What kind of leader sits in his residence and refuses to give a press briefing about the state of the nation. We will continue to observe as things get worse because our government lacks clues.”

JUST IN: Soldiers Arrived Lekki Toll Gate In Seven Trucks, Reveals CCTV Footage EXCLUSIVE: Salami Panel Recommends Magu, Omale, Shanono, Olukoyede For Prosecution

Footage released to the Lagos State judicial panel of inquiry probing the alleged shooting incident at the Lekki toll gate on October 20, 2020, has shown that soldiers arrived the location in seven trucks before the occurrence.

The footage was released to the panel by the Lekki Concession Company (LCC), the firm which operates the toll gate.

The panel, while viewing the 21-hour-long video on Saturday, saw that the soldiers arrived at 6.55 p.m.

More details to follow…
L-R: Justice Ayo Salami and Ibrahim Magu

The Justice Ayo Salami Panel which investigated allegations of corruption against suspended acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibrahim Magu, has recommended that he be prosecuted along with three other alleged accomplices, THE WHISTLER can authoritatively report.
Justice Salami on Friday morning submitted the final report of the panel to President Muhammadu Buhari who promised to implement all recommendations made in the report.

THE WHISTLER has been told that the panel not only dismissed Magu as unfit to continue as EFCC chairman, but also strongly recommended his prosecution along with his spiritualist, Pastor Emmanuel Omale , a bureau de change operator, Ahmed Ibrahim Shanono and the suspended Executive Secretary of the EFCC, Olanipekun Olukoyede, who all allegedly connived with him.
Pastor Omale of the Divine Hand of God Prophetic Ministry Church and Shanono are accused by the panel of serving as the channels through which Magu received bribes from persons and companies being investigated by the EFCC. Over one billion naira was allegedly received by Magu through the two men.

The recommendations only reinforce the interim report of the panel submitted to Buhari in August, which indicted all the four men.

THE WHISTLER had exclusively reported contents of the interim report which accused Magu of using Pastor Omale and Shanono, a bureau de change operator of using several bank accounts to receive bribe money on behalf of Magu.
The panel had assessed over 150 bank accounts owned by Shanono and Omale and found that they contained various sums of money in both local and foreign currencies (dollar) which were deposited by persons being investigated by the EFCC.

The Salami panel also revealed the identities of eight suspects that allegedly paid the bribes to Magu through Pastor Omale and Shanono. They include China Zhonghao Nigeria Limited, a former Chairman of the Niger State Pilgrims’ Agency, Liman Kantig and a former Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nathaniel Uyo.

Among companies under EFCC investigations that paid bribes to Magu is A.G Ferrero & CO, a federal government contractor and Apartment Le Paradisi , a company that testified in the case against the former Plateau State Governor, Joshua Dariye.

While receiving the final report of the panel on Friday, Buhari had promised to implement all the recommendations made to the government, vowing that there were no sacred cows in his administration.

If Buhari keeps to his words as sources believe he would, Magu and co may soon have their days in court.

Exclusive:APC And GEJ Option For 2023 …Why Wike, Ayade, Obaseki, Others, May Soon Join To APC +Why GEJ Has Become APC’s Most Beautiful Bride

“The Aso Rock group reached out to GEJ to first win his state as a prelude to the final onslaught. Pronto! The APC candidate, David Lyon won only for him to lost vide Supreme Court a day to the swearing-in. This jolted the group, but undaunted. They have activated the phase two which is to polarized the main opposition-the PDP. The plan is afoot already. Apart from Ebonyi Governor who defected recently, Prof. Ben Ayade of Cross River, Godwin Obaseki of Edo and Nyesome Wike of Rivers may soon join the APC. Those who thought Yahaya Bello, Kogi Governor was joking when he mentioned it on a national television that Wike may be the last to join APC did not understand what’s on ground. Wike owns his governorship to the benevolence of Mrs Patience Jonathan who’s from Okrika in Rivers state and Wike will never oppose anything GEJ. The whole idea is to neutralize Tinubu and if possible, provoked him to leave the APC with his group which has been depleted already”

GEJ & President Buhari

The All Progressives Congress (APC) may have commenced preparations for the 2023 presidential election as some of its governors held a private meeting with ex-President Goodluck Jonathan in Abuja on Friday evening.
GEJ

Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe state and acting national chairman of the APC, led the governors to Jonathan’s residence in Abuja.

David Umahi, governor of Ebonyi who recently defected to the APC from the PDP; Atiku Bagudu, governor of Kebbi and chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum; and Abubakar Badaru, governor of Jigawa, were at the meeting.

Also in the team was Kashim Ibrahim-Imam, former presidential liaison officer to the national assembly.

This may be precursor to the clamour for GEJ for 2023 presidential election being canvased by a powerful group within the APC to neutralize the two contending forces: Tinubu and Fayemi’s group.

Jonathan was elected president in 2011 and lost to Buhari in 2015, but he is still qualified to run having only spent one term of four years in office.

Coincidentally, Jonathan hosted the duo of Badaru and Bagudu at his Otuoke residence in Bayelsa a year ago.

The governors had visited Jonathan to thank him for his support in the victory of David Lyon, the APC candidate in the 2019 governorship election in Bayelsa.

Lyon was eventually sacked by the supreme court while Douye Diri of the PDP was declared winner of the election.

On Friday, APC leaders, including Ken Nnamani, a former senate president, visited Jonathan in commemoration of his 63rd birthday.

They held a private meeting with the ex-president during the visit which held after the Northern Governors’ Forum congratulated Jonathan on his birthday.

The Northern Governors Forum had sent warm felicitations to Jonathan on his birthday.

In a statement, Simon Lalong, chairman of the forum and governor of Plateau, said the former president has continued to serve the country with zeal and commitment.

He described Jonathan as a true democrat whose “passion for the growth of democracy is reflected not only in his records while in office but also of his current engagements where he has travelled round the world to monitor elections and also engage with stakeholders”.

Lalong also saluted the former president’s patriotism and dedication to the unity, peace and development of Nigeria as well as offering counsel on various issues.

He asked him to remain focused on his life of service that has brought honour and goodwill to Nigeria.

Those in the know say the plan was hatched last year during the gubernatorial election in Bayelsa.

The whole idea is to neutralize Tinubu and if possible, provoked him to leave the APC with his group which has been depleted already.” Said the source.

According to insider, the GEJ option seems to be the best in the present circumstances, because it would likely afford the APC to continue beyond 2023 after the ‘branding’.

Secondly, GEJ is seen as a moderate who is not vindictive and may not seek revenge if he succeeds President Muhammadu Buhari.

He’s also going to be a more or less an interim President for four years only and the battle of who succeeds him in from the north will start almost immediately he’s sworn-in.

It’s not clear if his eligibility will be contested in court because the constitution says you can only serve a two terms of four years apiece, making a total of eight years. GEJ would have served for 10 years if his promoters succeeded to install him in 2023 to serve for another four years, having spent six years already.

With these developments, the chairman of Nigeria governors forum and governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir el-Rufai may have to return to the drawing board to fine tune their strategy or activate the plan B.

The National Leader of the APC, Mr. Bola Tinubu who is said to have made an elaborate preparation to contest in 2023 may also have to tinker with his plans. The removal of Adams Oshiohmole as the national chairman of the APC seems to have taken the steam off his political machinery. The fall out of the EndSARS protests across the country may also have affected his political ambition. He’s been vilified as the sponsor, while some also accused him of inviting the Army to shoot at the peaceful protesters at Lekki Tollgate, a fact he attested to in his statement.

This may also be the reason behind the postponement of the APC convention initially slated for December 2020 to allow for more consultations and those who may want to defect before the convention in order to have an inclusive NWC. The secretary of the APC caretaker committee, Senator Akpan Udoedehe reveals recently that the committee is trying to woo more people to join the Party before the convention.

It promises to be a battle royale according to an insider. “Tinubu is a dogged fighter and also Fayemi’s group will not surrender the president ticket with a fight.”

Psychic who predicted Covid-19 pandemic and Trump's defeat warns pandemic 'will last until 2022'

A self-proclaimed psychic and regression therapist has warned that the effects of the coronavirus pandemic could last until 2022.

Nicolas Aujula has claimed he foresaw the Covid-19 pandemic and has offered a mixed prediction for the next year over the continued fight against the virus.

The 35-year-old from London claims he receives his predictions from visions that are at times "very literal", while on other occasions can be "symbolic", and dreamlike and more open to interpretation.

Nicolas claims he foresaw global protests, an "influenza" disaster, and even the fall of Donald Trump from office as US President before 2020 began.

Speaking to The Mirror, Nicolas has delved into the future again to suggest what he thinks will happen to the coronavirus pandemic in the coming year.

He told the publication: "One thing people have asked me about a lot this year is the coronavirus.

"I have visions of it plateauing after the new year and infection rates being right down to the point where they are under control by the spring."

However, he added a caveat, stating: "But, I predict that the panic and restrictions around the virus will go on until 2022."

Nicolas claims he had an "overwhelming" out of body experience when he was 17-years-old in which he saw all of his past lives, which included being an Egyptian queen, a maid, a deer, a lion, and even an extraterrestrial from another galaxy.

While he says he had experienced psychic powers since he was a child, it was this vision during his later teenage years that prompted him to abandon plans to study economics and history at university and instead train as a past life regression therapist.

Nicolas has revealed how he foresaw the disasters of 2020 as long as two years ago.

He explained: "Back in 2018, the word influenza kept coming to me. It stuck in my mind, as it’s not a word I’d use. If I was talking in everyday life, I would just say flu.

"I saw it as a global disaster, linked to meat or livestock.

"The Covid-19 pandemic has been compared to the Spanish flu outbreak, hence the word influenza and some people think it originated at a wildlife market in Wuhan, China.

"I also envisioned the defeat of Donald Trump. The US election was obviously very neck-and-neck, so it was surreal seeing my vision come true when Joe Biden finally took the lead."

He has also claimed to have predicted Black Lives Matter protests, Ariana Grande’s 2020 Grammy Awards dress, and health services around the world being under strain.

Police arrest pregnant woman, friend for allegedly roasting, eating two officers

The police in Oyo have arrested two suspects allegedly linked with the roasting and eating of the flesh of police officers burnt in Ibadan during #EndSARS protest.

Police spokesman Olugbenga Fadeyi confirmed the arrest of the suspects on Saturday in Ibadan in an interview with NAN.

The suspects, a 34-year-old pregnant woman and a 43-year-old man have been transferred to the Force Intelligence Bureau at the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation, he said.

The woman was alleged to have eaten some body parts of one of the police victims, an allegation which she denied, saying while it was true that she was at the scene, she was only given the body parts to keep by the second suspect.

The 43-year-old suspect did not also deny being at the scene of the incident with other hoodlums, but said it was the woman who voluntarily took the body parts and only asked him for a towel or handkerchief to wrap them in.

The fallen policemen were deployed to contain the #EndSARS protest of October 22, which was hijacked by hoodlums, when they met their deaths.

Fulani herdsmen, customs officers killing us like goats – Ogun residents tell Buhari

Residents of Ogun State have cried out to President Muhammadu Buhari, saying they were being killed by Fulani herdsmen and officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).

They called on the President to put an end to incessant killings and youths unemployment.

At a town hall meeting organised by the Minister for Mines and Steels Development, Olamilekan Adegbite, in Ijebu-Ode, Ilaro and Abeokuta on Friday, youths, women and elders of Ogun State bared their minds on ways to prevent a repeat of the recent #EndSARS protest.

While declaring the meetings open, Adegbite told the people that President Buhari had sent his appointees back to their home states to feel the pulse of Nigerians in order to forestall a repeat of youths restiveness that could give birth to carnage, killings, arson and breakdown of law and order.

In their reactions, the people lamented the spate of killings in Ogun State, especially in the border communities, blaming unemployment for the recent crisis.

Ogun indigenes also decried the deplorable conditions of federal roads in the state, while adding that the people are hungry as a result of border closure.

In his words, Adebiyi Adeyinka Tajudeen from Yewa South said customs officers have been killing Ogun people like goats, all in the name of chasing suspected smugglers.

Tajudeen alleged that many have been killed this year by the customs officers, begging the President to stop NCS officers from shooting within the communities if they fail to seize contraband at the borders.

Corroborating Tajudeen’s submission, one Hunponu Olamikan explained that Fulani herdsmen have made farming unattractive to the people of the Gateway State.

According to Olamilekan, herdsmen have continued to destroy farms as their cows graze on crops.

“After destroying our crops, we have no right to talk. If we talk, these Fulani herdsmen will kill us like goats. Recently, they killed a father, his wife and three children in Oja-Odan, Yewa North. This is getting too much and nobody is doing anything about it,” Olamilekan lamented.

In his words, the former Chairman of Imeko-Afon Local Government, Hon. Tosin Adeluyi, called on the Federal Government to see to the development of border areas, saying the agency put in charge of that responsibility has not been doing anything in Ogun State.

Adeluyi said unemployment is the root cause of all social vices, and charged governments at all levels to keep the youths off the streets by getting them gainfully employed.

Responding, the Minister assured the people that their requests would get to the President.

Adegbite said government would not rest until the excesses of customs officers in Ogun and Nigeria in general are addressed.

According to him, officers of the NCS need to be sensitised, stressing that “it is far better for a smuggler to escape than to kill an innocent soul.”

He revealed that the population of the nation is growing faster than the nation’s revenue, urging all Nigerians to be productive.

Nigeria officially slides into worst recession since 1987

Nigeria has slid into its worst economic recession in over three decades.

Gross domestic product (GDP) numbers released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Saturday, November 21, indicates the nation recorded a contraction of 3.62 percent in the third quarter of 2020.

This is the second consecutive quarterly GDP decline since the recession of 2016. The cumulative GDP for the first nine months of 2020, therefore, stood at -2.48 percent.

The last time Nigeria recorded such cumulative GDP was in 1987, when GDP declined by 10.8 percent.

According to World Bank and NBS figures monitored by The Cable, this is the second recession under President Muhamadu Buhari’s democratic reign and his fourth as head of state.

Earlier this year, the World Bank warned in a statement that the Nigerian economy is expected to plunge into severe economic recession, the worst in almost 40 years due to the collapse of oil prices and the outbreak of the coronavirus disease.

The report released by the World Bank in June?estimated that Nigeria’s economy would likely contract by 3.2% in 2020,

Peace, security may elude Nigeria if…, says Alaafin

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi II revealed that Nigeria will continue to wallow in insecurity, crisis and others if the traditional rulers are not given the constitutional role in the governance of Nigeria.

Oba Lamidi faulted the Federal Government’s approach of inviting traditional rulers when the country is facing crisis or insecurity.

The monarch disclosed this on the 70th Birthday Anniversary lecture in honour of Oloba of Oba Ile, Oba (Dr) Adekunle Asamu in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State, held at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, Osun State University, Osogbo.

He noted that abolishment of traditional rulers’ roles and influence from the 1999 constitution may cause peace to elude Nigeria if traditional rulers are continuously disregarded in the administration of their local territories.

His Words: “The fire brigade approach of inviting traditional rulers to resolve a crisis which was not created by them only works temporarily and it is not the way to go. The need for the constitutional role for traditional rulers in the country should not be downplayed. Their knowledge of the nooks and crannies of their communities make it indispensable in ensuring the security of lives and property of the people and also to endear development to their localities.

“With the situation in Nigeria today, there is no way you can relegate traditional rulers to the background. They have developed an administrative system that it would be impossible to relegate them to the background, especially in Yorubaland. Any attempt to whittle down the authority or influence of traditional rulers could lead to disaster.

“In the 1999 constitution, roles of traditional rulers in governance was completely abolished. Councillors or chairmen, who were not part of the establishment of the community were given roles at the detriment of traditional institutions. There would hardly be peace in the lands if traditional rulers were not accorded roles in the development of their domain.

“Inviting traditional rulers to resolve the crisis that was not their fault is not the solution to our problems, it is temporary but monarchs should be given constitutional roles to endear development,” he ended.

Earlier, the Guest lecturer, Bode Adediji spoke on the topic, “Traditional Rulers and their role in Community Development”, said, “Development must come from grassroots. When a policy favour only the children of the rich it will later fail until it favours the poor and the rich then development is non-negotiable. Either we breakup or restructure if the challenges of leadership are not addressed we are going to face the same problem in the small colony we created.”

In his welcome remark, Chairman of the Organising Committee, Oluomo Sunday Akere said the topic was chosen to celebrate a role model among traditional rulers in the state, whose rise to stardom was made possible by resilience and determination

Trump and his allies have won zero out of the 21 election fraud lawsuits they've filed since Election Day

The Trump campaign and other Republican groups have mounted 21 legal challenges since Election Day, alleging "rigged" election marred by "major fraud" from Democrats.

However, Trump has won none of the lawsuits.

The lawsuits argue that states and counties have violated election laws.

Republicans have filed the lawsuits in local, state, and federal courts in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, and Pennsylvania — all states that Biden won or is projected to win, according to Decision Desk HQ data published by Insider.

The Trump campaign initially had a single win, when a Pennsylvania judge ruled on November 12 that first-time voters were supposed to confirm their IDs with county boards of election by November 9, rather than November 12. The decision opened the door to disqualify the ballots of people who didn't verify their IDs in time. But the state Supreme Court later overturned that decision.

That leaves Trump and other Republicans with 15 cases they have withdrawn or lost, and 6 that are still pending.
