Sanwo-Olu hands over amputee sachet water hawker to police over untrue stories

Following discrepancy discovered in the story of an amputee sachet water hawker, Mary Daniels, 26, who recently received donations from Nigerians due to her situation, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has directed the relevant ministry to hand over the matter to the state Police Command for further investigation.

Daniels’ viral story on social media had elicited global sympathy and concern from Nigerians.

When contacted for comments, the state Commissioner for information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, could not respond to calls and text messages sent to his mobile phone at press time.
The cat was let out of the bag when it was discovered that the story must have been fabricated following strange calls that Daniels had continued receiving from a team who were instrumental to her fortune in Lagos.

Sequel to the discovery, it was gathered that the governor directed that a Kogi traditional leader in Lagos, a Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO), Irede foundation, should further investigate the story and keep a tap on her movements.

Meanwhile, the Office of Special Adviser on Civic Engagement to Lagos State Governor had been directed by the governor to handle the case and follow it to the latter.

Subsequently, Daniels was handed over to the traditional leader and other agencies on Wednesday with about N25 million in her private account.

It was discovered that the stories earlier narrated by the amputee were conflicting coupled with strange calls coming from people suspected to be those that she worked for before her discovery.

The actions of the state government became necessary after investigations revealed that the amputee was not telling a true story about herself and the life she had been living before helps from the public and government intervention came to her way.

The development came to light when some of the people Daniels had a deal started calling repeatedly, demanding for their own share of the donations Daniels had received from the public or else they would expose her.

It was also discovered that Daniel claims that she was an orphan and that the parents died during an accident were untrue, while her situations in Oshodi were allegedly staged.

The source narrated that during interrogations, it was discovered that the amputee’s father was still alive contrary to Daniel’s initial claim that she lost both parents during an accident several years back.

Also after several hours of investigation into her story, the official added that it was discovered that the sachet water hawker’s mother truly died but was not through an auto crash as earlier narrated by Daniel after arriving Oshodi where she was discovered last month.

Meanwhile, efforts are on to contact the state police command for confirmation at press time.

A man who got his first COVID-19 vaccine a year ago in Moderna's clinical trial just received his third shot - and he's feeling great

Ian Haydon got his first Moderna shot in a clinical trial more than a year ago.

He’s now participating in a trial to determine whether a booster shot would be safe to take.

Haydon has posted about his experience on social media and said he’s been amazed at the responses.

.

Ian Haydon’s COVID immunity is a popualr topic on Twitter. The 30-year-old got his first shot of the Moderna vaccine over a year ago, and he’s been sharing his experience on social media ever since.

Among the outpouring of supportive responses, Haydon has fielded many questions about his antibody levels, one indication of protection against the coronavirus.

“I want to know the same thing,” he told Insider. As a participant in one of the first COVID-19 vaccine trials – which started with just 45 people – Haydon has had his blood drawn periodically over the past year, but he’ll have to wait for the study results to be published to learn more about his long-term immunity.

He’ll also have to stay tuned for results of an ongoing trial of a possible booster shot that could protect against coronavirus variants. That puts Haydon in an elite group of about 60 participants who have now received three COVID-19 shots, and will help scientists prepare for the next stage of the pandemic.
In the first trial, Haydon got an experimental high dose vaccine
Haydon learned about the vaccine trial from a coworker last spring – “really in the Before Times,” he said. He filled out a sign-up form without much thought, not certain he would hear back.

On April 8, 2020, Haydon received his first shot of an experimental vaccine dose that’s notably higher than what’s currently authorized for use. He was enrolled in a Phase 1 safety trial, meaning that all participants got an active dose and were monitored for side effects.

“My first shot was quite uneventful,” Haydon told Insider. “I remember I had arm pain, soreness at the injection site that came on the next day and then faded pretty quickly.”

The second shot was a different story. Haydon experienced similar arm pain that came on more suddenly than the last time, and about 12 hours after the shot, the chills started. When he took his temperature in the middle of the night, it was over 103 degrees Fahrenheit.

His side effects were bad, but helped inform Moderna about dosing
After waking up in the middle of the night with a high fever, nausea, headache, and muscle aches, Haydon called the 24-hour hotline set up for trial participants – which was open “in case anything got bad, and this was kind of bad.”

He was advised to go to urgent care, where he received IV fluids and Tylenol to bring his fever down. Haydon said he felt “a lot better” after the two hours he spent at urgent care. He was eventually discharged and went home to catch up on the sleep he missed.

But Haydon still felt ill when he woke up in the middle of the next day. At home, he threw up and fainted shortly after, but opted not to return to urgent care. By that evening, his fever was climbing down and the headache and nausea were getting less intense. And when he woke up the next day, he was “basically fully recovered.”

The Moderna researchers would later decide that a medium dose provided the same protection with less severe side effects than what Haydon experienced. Even after the brutal 24 hours, Haydon said he didn’t regret participating in the trial.

“As bad as it was to go through, it still is comforting to me to know that it wasn’t for nothing,” Haydon told Insider. “We learned about the dose of the vaccine that’s most effective and what dose is too high, and that’s going to go on to benefit a lot of people who end up taking a safer dose of the vaccine.”

Haydon got an experimental third shot this month
About three months ago, Haydon was contacted by the team running the Phase 1 trial. The researchers were looking into the safety of a possible booster shot, and the early trial participants were their best hope for a long-term study.

“There are two questions that the researchers are looking at: we don’t know whether it’s safe to take a booster at all, and we also don’t know what the effect of taking a slightly modified version of the vaccine is going to be,” Haydon said.

He got an experimental booster made up of 25 micrograms of the Moderna vaccine that’s currently in use and 25 micrograms of a new vaccine tailored to the B.1.351 variant that was first spotted in South Africa.

Haydon got the shot on April 1, nearly a year after his first dose of the vaccine. Fortunately, his reaction wasn’t nearly as severe as his second-shot side effects – probably similar to what most people are experiencing after their second dose of the vaccine nowadays.

He had some arm pain the day he got the booster shot, as well as a low-grade fever, nausea, aches, and fatigue that lasted into the next day. Again, he recovered after about 24 hours of side effects.

People have followed along with Haydon’s experience on Twitter
Haydon said he’s been amazed at the level of engagement of people following his story on social media. As a science communicator, he’s noticed more people are paying attention to science news, especially when it comes to vaccine development.

The attention he’s gotten has been overwhelmingly positive, Haydon said. A lot of people have reached out to him saying they too would like to volunteer for a vaccine trial. He tells them opportunities vary regionally, and he would encourage folks to look into research studies in their areas.

“It’s been incredible to see this go from an experimental vaccine I was getting and nobody knew if it was going to work, to seeing dozens of people posting their vaccine selfies every day,” Haydon said. “It’s just a really cool feeling to see it have a real impact in the world.”

Politicians are sponsors of banditry, says Uzodinma

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, on Friday alleged that politicians are the ones sponsoring the banditry being witnessed in parts of the country.

Uzodinma, who spoke with State House correspondents after a meeting he had with the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, however, did not name the politicians when he was asked to do so.

He, however, charged the nation’s security agencies to make the names available to journalists, saying the plan of the politicians is to distract the government.

The governor claimed that the Buhari’s regime has been doing well, hence the decision of the politicians sponsoring banditry to sabotage the government.

He said, “From 2015 till today, I thought what the problem would be is people saying that there is no job creation, people are not feeding, salaries are not paid, infrastructure is going down, social interventions are not approved by government.

“These things are there, available, a pass mark for the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Now, people are no longer talking about that, rather what they are doing is to sponsor crisis, to the extent that those funding this banditry are politicians.

“I challenge and call on security agencies to make their names available to the press because what they want to do is to distract a government that is focused.
“If this government is not doing well, I will be one of those that will declare the government as not doing well, but a situation where you will leave the formal and ethical way of doing politics, and you are now sponsoring banditry to bring down a government, for Christ’s sake, we should all rise up and condemn it.”

When asked to mention the names of the politicians he claimed are sponsoring banditry, the governor replied, “This is security issue, a lot of investigations are going on here and there, preliminary reports are there. People are furthering the investigations.

“I think I have given you something to go home with. When you go home, think about it and do the homework by yourself.”

The governor said he has been enjoying many interventions from the President in the interest of the people of his state.

He, however, said for such interventions to have an impact on the people, there must be an enabling environment.

This, he claimed, is why those he described as enemies of progress, are out to scuttle good governance.
He wondered why people will be hiring people to kill.

On the agitation for cessation, Uzodinma said he was committed to a united Nigeria.

“I don’t think that I will support any call for cessation. I want a united, strong Nigeria. Our strength is in our diversity and today, we are supposed to play a leading role on this continent.

“We don’t want to whittle down our strength. Rather, what I advise is that we must appreciate the gift of nature, in our land and the support government,” he said.

He confirmed that his meeting with the President centred on the security challenges facing his state especially with the recent attacks on police formations and correctional services’ facility.
He noted that the Federal Government has since beefed up security in the state, leading to relative calm.

He said he asked the President to increase manpower and also give the security agencies logistic support to be able to do their job.

The governor disclosed that between 40 and 50 suspects have been arrested in relation to recent attacks in the state.

He said the suspects have made useful statements.

After A Fraudster Scammed An Asian- American Woman of $475, 000, See The Car He Bought With The Money

It' s the end of the road for a number of fraudsters who were apprehended at their hideout in Lagos State, following an intelligence operation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to reports, one of the fraudsters, has been identified as a popular social media influencer on Instagram, Nwagbo Oliver Chidera, aka Pankerooy.
The celebrity, stated to be a comedian, was taken into custody alongside over 30 other suspects, whose fraudulent online activities attracted the attention of the EFCC.
One of the suspects, named Chinedu Christian, had taken his own activities to a higher level by pretending to be an American named Dave Federick, who was in Syria on a mission.

He reportedly used the fake identity to defraud an unsuspecting Asian- American woman of the sum of $475, 000, in a romance scam, common among fraudsters.

File photo used to tell the story.

According to a spokesman for the Commission, the suspect was relieved of a Mercedes- Benz AMG GLE car, costing about N36 million. Chinedu Christian was also revealed to have about $58, 530 (N22. 3 million) in Bitcoin at the time of his arrest.
File photo used to tell the story.

It' s interesting how, despite that the online romance scam has been around for a while now, a number of unsuspecting foreign nationals still fall victim every now and then for the wiles of clever fraudsters, who routinely take advantage of their victims' kindheartedness and desire for love.

By now, elderly ladies in particular, who reside abroad, should be aware that something' s not right, the moment the person they develop an online romance with starts to ask them for money.
File photo used to tell the story.

The Commission' s investigations also revealed that expensive items, such as vehicles, personal computers, MacBook laptops, iPhones and Android phones were also retrieved from Chinedu' s partners in crime.

Fresh attack in Zamfara community leaves 40 reportedly killed

Gunmen suspected to be bandits armed with deadly weapons have stormed Kangon Farun Mana and Yardoka villages in Magami district of Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State, killing over 40 people, mostly members of the outlawed Yansakai groups.

According to one Aminu Magami, an eyewitness, who spoke to DAILY POST, the dreaded gunmen stormed the communities at the early hours of Wednesday and started unleashing terror on the villagers.

Magami explained that most of the people who were killed were members of the outlawed Yansakai group who attempted to repel the attack by the bandits.

“One of those killed by the bandits was a close friend of mine; we had discussion few hours before he was killed,” the source added.

In another development, another set of bandits also seized Bayan Banki, Gobirawa and Biyabiki communities in Tsafe Local Government Area of the State where they killed one person in Gobirawa village and left two others wounded at Bayan Banki.

According to the source, those killed and wounded were initially being targeted and penciled by the bandits, saying that they were members of the outlawed Yansakai groups that have been disturbing the bandits from free operation in the area.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident occured less than 24 hours after members of the outlawed Yansakai groups at Gidan Zuma repelled another attack by some suspected bandits and killed two of their members on Monday.

Another eyewitness, who spoke to our correspondent said earlier before the Monday’s encounter, the bandits had attempted to cease the same Gidan Zuma but they were resisted by the members of the outlawed Yansakai during which the bandits lost five of their members.

When contacted, the State Police Command said it actually received a distress call when the the attack was on in Magami but could not respond and repel the attack due to lack of good roads in the area.

According to the command’s spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, the location where the incident occurred does not have cellular network coverage making communication very difficult to the police operative for quick response.

He added that “PMF 19 Contingent attached to Puff Adder ll that are based in Magami responded to the locations on foot with a view to preventing further attacks on the neighbouring communities and their response is being awaited to ascertain the level of damage done by the assailants”

I Was Barely A Teenager When I Made Those Comments In Support of 'Terrorism'- Minister Pantami Admits To Controversial Comments

Ali Isa Pantami, Buhari' s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, has retracted controversial remarks he made about terrorist organizations Al- Qaeda and the Taliban.

The minister has come under fire for comments that have been interpreted as support for extremist sects.

Social media users and some critics of the government have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack him if he does not resign.

However, while answering questions during his daily Ramadan lecture at Abuja' s Annor Mosque, the minister stated that he was now more aware of some of his previous comments. He claimed that the campaign against him was politically motivated.

" I toured the country for 15 years, trying to educate people about the dangers of terrorism. I preached against terrorism in Katsina, Gombe, Borno, Kano, and Difa states.

" I have engaged with people who adhere to the ideology of Boko Haram in various places. I have written pamphlets in Hausa, English and Arabic.

I have been able to bring back several youths who have gone astray.

" Some of the comments I made some years ago that are causing controversy now were based on my understanding of religious issues at the time, and I have changed several positions I took in the past because of new insights and maturity.

" I was young when I made some of the comments; I was in college, some of the comments were made when I was a teenager. I started preaching when I was 13 years old, many scholars and individuals didn' t understand some of the international events and therefore took some positions based on their understanding, some have come later to change their positions. "

In Other News: ' Boko Haram Terrorists Shouldn' t Be Killed Like Pigs, They Are Our Muslim Brothers' , Buhari Minister Pantami Says In A Leaked

In an audio message posted online, Nigeria' s Minister of Communications, Isa Pantami, condemned the Nigerian army' s assault on Boko Haram strongholds, calling the insurgents " our Muslim brothers" who did not deserve to be killed like pigs.

" Have you seen what our Muslim brothers' blood has become? Even a pig' s blood is more valuable than that of a Muslim brother " Pantami lamented in a sermon he preached a few years ago as then- President Goodluck Jonathan ramped up military operations against the terrorist group.

On Thursday night, the audio was obtained by Peoples Gazette through an anonymous source. The location of Mr Pantami' s sermon and those present could not immediately be ascertained, but the words nevertheless contradict his recent claims that he has long maintained a tough stance against Boko Haram.

Media outlets allied with Mr Pantami have also engaged in a media whitewash to portray him as a moderate preacher who has been widely celebrated for his long- standing disdain for Boko Haram.

Mr Pantami also joined his supporters in amplifying a threat directed at him by Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau and evoked it to dismiss insinuations about his sympathy for the terrorists as counterproductive.

However, in the February 2020 video, Shekau appeared more enraged by Mr Pantami' s betrayal in becoming a senior government official after preaching Salafist ideology for years than by the minister' s alleged criticism of Boko Haram' s deadly exploits.

Mr Pantami has long been known in northern Nigeria as a respected Islamic cleric. Most of his sermons denounce government high- handedness, and the People' s Gazette published a video of him on Thursday vowing never to enter public service.

The sermon was delivered in the mid- 2000s, years before Mr Buhari appointed him NITDA boss in 2016 and later Cabinet Minister for Communications in 2019.

" We pray to God to hear all our prayers. It is our right and duty before all Muslim leaders, politicians, government commissioners, academicians, " Mr Pantami said in his prayers.

" We should not stand helplessly, while we watch them shed the blood of our Muslim brothers and defraud them for nothing. "

Mr Pantami said Boko Haram elements should have been treated with dignity in the face of the deadly military campaign, saying the annihilation of the insurgents amounted to an extrajudicial killing.

" even if the boko haram fighters commit a crime does it justify the manner in which they are been killed, " he asked.

" Just look at how they are killing people as if they were shooting pigs; even if they are committing a crime, why are they killing extrajudicially? Bring them to the courts for a fair trial. "

" They caught someone sleeping and killed him. If it is not Muslims who are subjected to such treatment, who else? " said Mr Pantami.

'We can't stop here': Joe Biden, Oprah Winfrey, and Beyonce among those reacting to Derek Chauvin verdict

Following a high-profile trial, the former Minneapoli police officer was found guilty of murdering George Floyd
Joe Biden along with two of the most prominent black women in America, Oprah Winfrey and Beyonce, have led the reaction to the conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin in the killing of George Floyd.

The US president marked the verdict announced on Tuesday as what “can be a giant step forward” in the fight against systemic racism.

But he declared that “it’s not enough”.

Beyonce welcomed a “good day” while Oprah Winfrey said she cried tears of joy.

Mr Biden spoke from the White House alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, with the pair saying the country’s work on racial inequality was far from finished.

“We can’t stop here,” Mr Biden said.

Chauvin, 45, pinned Floyd, 46, to the ground with his knee last May.

The incident was caught on camera and the harrowing video triggered a racial justice movement across the US that quickly spread to the rest of the world, including the UK and in Greater Manchester.

Promoted Stories
Following a high-profile trial, Chauvin was on Tuesday found guilty on all charges – second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Mr Biden addressed the nation after telephoning Mr Floyd’s family following the verdict, telling them, “We’re all so relieved”.

He added later that he sought to comfort Mr Floyd’s young daughter Gianna, telling her: “Daddy did change the world.”

In a statement shared on Beyonce's website alongside a childhood picture of Floyd sleeping in his mother’s arms, the singer said: “After too many years of misguided justice, today is a good day.

“I encourage all of us to continue to pray for George Floyd’s family and for all the families who seek justice for their loved ones who are victims of too many years of inequalities.”

Winfrey wrote on Instagram: “Relieved—and emotional in ways I didn’t expect. I cried tears of joy as each verdict was read. I’m grateful to the witnesses and their testimonies.”

Winfrey said she was “grateful to Darnella Frazier” - the teenager who filmed Chauvin kneeling on Floyd.

She added: “Grateful to every Juror for seeing and acknowledging what the world saw on that tape. Thank you God for real! #GeorgeFloyd.”

Meanwhile, chart-topping singer Mariah Carey tweeted “Hallelujah!!!!!!!!” in response to the news, before adding: “A beginning.. a small grain of hope for our future.”

Barack and Michelle Obama issued a statement welcoming the verdict, but warned America’s problem with race was far from solved.

They said: “True justice requires that we come to terms with the fact that Black Americans are treated differently, every day. It requires us to recognise that millions of our friends, family, and fellow citizens live in fear that their next encounter with law enforcement could be their last.

“And it requires us to do the sometimes thankless, often difficult, but always necessary work of making the America we know more like the America we believe in.”

British F1 driver Lewis Hamilton also shared his reaction, describing the verdict as “monumental”.
He added: “But this is just one step on the path towards a more equal society. Since George’s death, so many other Black people have died at the hands of the police and we must ensure the momentum of today continues. The fight isn’t over, and there is more to be done.”

Singer Justin Timberlake said the verdict represented “the first step in a long line of injustice against the Black community, often with no consequences”.

He added: “The work is not nearly done. While there are many more families waiting for justice, my heart is with George Floyd’s family right now.”

Chris Evans, an actor best known for playing Captain America in the Marvel films, said: “Justice. Sending love to George Floyd’s family and friends.”

Army Raids Igboland Over IPOB, Ezekwesili Blasts Buhari

EXCLUSIVE: Army Raids Imo Communities, Arrests Youths, Residents Over IPOB, ESN Membership
The Nigerian Army has deployed its personnel to some Imo State communities to carry out raids, discreet searches and arrests of youths and residents who are suspected to be linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra and its security arm, the Eastern Security Network. Multiple sources told SaharaReporters that the military personnel, suspected to be led by the 34 Artillery Brigade, Owerri, since Sunday have been arresting male residents and youths, particularly in Oguta and Ohaji communities and clamping them into vans and taken to unknown destinations.

“We have been getting distress calls from our relatives and people that the army sent its men to surround communities in Ohaji, Osu, Agwa and Izombe. They have been abducting some male youths. It is an abduction because nobody among those arrested knows his offence, where they are taking him to or is able to communicate to his relatives before he is taken away. The military are forcing them in their vans,” a source stated.

“A few women are among the victims being raided too. Some of our women who went to farms have not returned since. People from Oguta, Ohaji communities, who have relatives in Owerri town are fleeing, because the army wants to turn our villages into deserts. What is all this search because of IPOB and ESN? Is it by emptying our villages that you arrest IPOB and ESN? Won’t people go to their farms again?” a resident said.

Imo State has been a hotbed of violence and killings which got to a head on April 5, when the notorious gunmen attacked the state police command headquarters, and freed no fewer than 2,000 inmates at the headquarters of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Owerri.

The gunmen had also attacked the office of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the state police command, freeing suspects there.

The attackers had burnt all the vehicles parked at the command headquarters and freed all the suspects in almost all the cells at the SCID.

SaharaReporters had reported that the gunmen operated in over 10 vehicles, and also attacked soldiers stationed at Umuorji along Owerri–Onitsha Expressway.

Earlier, four police divisional headquarters had been attacked since February. They include Obowo, Aboh Mbaise and Ihitte/Uboma, divisions.

Unknown gunmen on March 20 also razed the Isiala Mbano Police Divisional Headquarters located at Umuelemai in Imo State.

The gunmen had invaded the divisional headquarters armoury and freed suspects in the detention facility and carted away arms.

While some had fingered the IPOB and ESN as the culprits, the state government had said the gunmen were being used by aggrieved politicians, while the IPOB has also denied its involvement in the attacks.

Nigeria Under Buhari ‘A Mass Of Cumulative Failure’, Oby Ezekwesili Says
Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has said that Nigeria under the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, has become “a mass of cumulative failure.”

In a Twitter thread on Tuesday, Ezekwesili lamented that with the way things are currently going, Nigeria risks losing its status as a country as it steadily hobbles down the slippery slope under President Buhari. According to her, recent happenings in Nigeria do not present the country as a progressive one but rather as a ‘mass of cumulative failure’.

She said Nigeria of today can be compared with countries like Yemen, Somalia, South Sudan, Syria, among others. Ezekwesili called for a sovereign national conversation.

Her tweet read, “For 60 years, Nigeria in a classic case of failure of nation formation failed to make the transition from country to nation.

“Sadly, it even now risks its status as a country as it steadily hobbles down the slippery slope of fragile state under the leadership of President Buhari.

“The most representative characterization of today’s Nigeria is not of a progressive country, but as a mass of cumulative failure.

“The Fragile State Score for Nigeria in 2020 according to the Fund for Peace is 97.3. That high score for all indices of a failing State has placed the country as the world’s 14th most fragile state.”

Buhari Mourns Children Killed In Niger School Fire

President Muhammadu Buhari has mourned over 20 schoolchildren killed in a fire incident in Niamey, Niger Republic.
Buhari in a statement issued on Friday by his spokesman Garba Shehu, commiserated with the government and people of the Niger Republic, describing the tragedy as extremely terrific.

“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, we commiserate with our brotherly neighbours on this tragic loss,” a message to President Mohammed Bazoum read.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families and communities affected by this unfortunate incident, wishing quick recovery to those who were injured.”

No fewer than 20 children died on April 13 after they were trapped in a fire at a school in the country’s capital.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started late on Tuesday afternoon when the children were in lessons, many in straw-hut classrooms.

The flames blocked the school gate, so most pupils had to escape over a wall, said a teacher’s union official quoted by Reuters.

Most of those who did not manage to escape were attending the school’s nursery, officials say.

Buhari Government Apologises To All Nigerians, See Reason

The Buhari Government has apologised to all Nigerians for power outage and irregular supply.
Onyxnews Nigeria reports that the Nigerian Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari has apologised to all Nigerians over the current power outages and shortages in various parts of the country.

This online news platform understands that the Minister of power Sale Mamman in a statement by his media aide Aaron Artimas said power outage and irregular supply was caused by the breakdown of some National Integrated Power Plants (NIPP) supplying electricity to the national grid.

Artimas listed the affected plants to include Sapele, Afam, Olonrunsogo, Omotosho, Ibom, Egbin, Alaoji, and Ihovbor.

He noted that while the Jebba Power Plant was shut down for annual maintenance, the Shiroro Power Plant has water management problems.

Seven other integrated power plants – Geregu, Sepele, Omotosho, Gbarain, Omuku, Paras, and Alaoji – are experiencing gas constraints.

Artimas lamented that the condition of the plants has drastically affected power generation, leading to effectively minimising the national grid.

The minister, however, assured Nigerians that the ministry through the appropriate agencies was working assiduously to rectify the technical problems affecting the plants, as well as making effort to resolve the gas issues to the others.

The minister stated that the national grid would be restored to its previous historic distribution peak of about 5,600MW of electricity achieved earlier in 2021.

He said power restoration will relieve Nigerians from the current harsh climatic conditions and restore full economic activities.

IGP orders closure of Police Monitoring Units offices in Lagos and Port Harcourt

Acting Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba has ordered the immediate disbandment of the IGP Monitoring Satellite Offices in Lagos and Port Harcourt over complaints of harassment and operating beyond their briefs by Nigerians.

Alkali gave the order at his maiden meeting with police commissioners and senior officers on Thursday April 15. He further stated that the ban became necessary to enable him reorganize and return the force to basics in policing.

The Acting IGP said the police will instead focus on re-organising the teams to enhance their operation. He said under the new arrangement, the Unit will now operate within their original mandate which is to investigate complaints of professional infractions that may be alleged against any serving officer and as may be referred to them by his office.

Alkaki said;

“In furtherance to our Force reorganisation plans as well as our commitment to return to the basics in policing, I have directed the immediate reform of the IGP Monitoring Unit.

“This involves the disbandment of the satellite offices of the Unit in Lagos and Port Harcourt, the streamlining of the personnel profile of the Unit at the Force Headquarters to not more than fifty (50) operatives, and the banning of the Unit from undertaking criminal investigations including taking over cases from State Commands.

“Under the current dispensation, the Unit will only operate within their original mandate which is to investigate complaints of professional infractions that may be alleged against any serving officer and as may be referred to them by my Office. Similar repositioning initiatives are being worked out in relation to other ad hoc investigative Units in the Force. This is with a view to restore professionalism, address citizens’ concerns on rights abuses resulting from the existence and operations of these ad hoc police investigation Units and to discourage duplication of police functions in a manner that encourages indiscipline and abuse of police process”.

The Actress That Took Pictures With Her Son Without Wearing Any Cloth Has Been Sentenced To Prison
Different people have their unique ways of showing their emotions whenever they are happy or sad. A particular Ghanaian Actress, Rosemond Brown, otherwise known as Akuapem Poloo expressed her excitement in an indecent manner few months ago. The actress was so excited on her child’s birthday and she wanted to do something out of the ordinary just to show how excited she was about her son’s birthday.

The Actress

In the quest of doing something out of the ordinary, the actress took a photo-shoot with her son and unlike other birthday photoshoot, the woman went naked in front of her son. She took that picture without any cloth on to symbolize the exact way she gave birth to her son. She said that she brought her son to the world without any cloth on her, thus, she intends to celebrate the day he was born that same way.

Censored Picture
She shared the pictures online and many people were stunned when they saw a naked mother in front of her grown-up son, all in the name of birthday photo-shoot. All the way from Ghana, the picture went viral on social media and it got to Nigeria and many other countries as people were criticizing the woman for what she did.

Shortly after the heavy criticism on social media, she took the pictures down as she realized that she made a huge mistake just because she wanted to mark her son’s birthday in a unique. When she realized her fault, she apologized to everyone in another online video. She says ‘I have not been myself and the sadness is really eating me up after I posted a naked picture of my son talking to him on his birthday.’

‘All I want to say is please forgive me, it will never happen again. I did not post it for any bad intention, it was out of pain that I went through when I gave birth to my son. I realized the post is not good and I took it off. Looking at the caption and the comments on my page, I have regretted posting it. I just want to say a big sorry to whoever I hurt by posting those pictures, if not because of me, forgive me because of my son.’- the Actress says.

She begs for forgiveness
She begged for forgiveness and took the post from her page but some child’s right organization did not stop until they charged her to court. After all these months, the Actress has now been sentenced to 90 days in prison by an Accra Circuit Court over the publication of obscene material and domestic violence.

The Actress cried for forgiveness when she realized that her emotions have gotten the best out of her but it was too late as she finally gets convicted. It was reported that the Actress also pleaded for mercy in court but it was all abortive. ‘Mummy please, Mummy, I beg you, Mummy Please’- the Actress reportedly said to the Judge.

This is very sad because even when the Actress finished her sentence, she would forever be regarded as an ex-convict which is not a good thing for her.
