What I Know About Our Student Who Murdered Super TV CEO – UNILAG Lecturer

A Senior Lecturer at the Mass Communications Department of the University of Lagos, Dr Bunmi Ajibade , on Thursday disclosed that he has made some findings on Chidinma Ojukwu, a murder suspect.
The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday paraded Chidinma over the murder of the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga .
The remains of Ataga was found in a flat in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, with multiple wounds, on June 16.

It was reported that the sum of ₦5 million was withdrawn from his account after he was murdered.

Chidinma was said to have fled the scene after committing the crime.

The lecturer in a message circulated on WhatsApp after news of the incident went viral, said Ojukwu’s parents ought to have monitored her.

“We parents should pray for and monitor our children. There is so much evil going on in tertiary institutions now. Drugs, alcohol and s*x have become the order of the day among adolescents.”

“As Coordinator of Part-Time programme, l have made some investigations about the lady. The last time she came to school was before the Covid-19 lockdown. She has never written the 300 Level exam with her cohorts.

“She has never stepped her feet on the soil of UNILAG since the commencement of this semester early last month. Yet, she was arrested in her father’s house.

“Were the parents sensitive enough to discover her truancy in school? Did they monitor her progress in school if they suspected something is amiss? How come they were apparently neglected that this calamity came upon them suddenly? Many questions are begging for answers.”

Nigerians should be paying N256/litre for petrol, says NNPC

Mele Kyari, the Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), says Nigerians should be paying at least N256 per litre for petrol.

Mr Kyari disclosed this at a stakeholders meeting organised by the NNPC to stop fuel smuggling.

Commenting on the current PMS and subsidy payment, Mr Kyari noted that the petrol pump price should be N256 per litre given the current exchange rate.

“If we are to sell at the market today at the current exchange rate, we will be selling the product at about N256 to a litre. What we sell today is N162, so the difference is at a cost to the nation,’’ he said.

According to him, the country cannot sustain subsidy payment with the high volume of daily consumption, pointing out that the country coughs up N150 billion every month on subsidy.

The NNPC boss further explained, “As long as we don’t regulate volume until we are able to exit this current level, which I know so much work is going on, then we have to manage the volume that we are exposed to between this price of N162 and N256. The difference comes back to as much as N140 billion to N150 billion cost to the country monthly.

“As long as the volume goes up, that money continues to increase, and we have two sets of stress to face: the stress of supply and stress of foreign exchange for the NNPC. We may not see foreign exchange cheque taking place for importation.’’

President Replaces Two Top Ministers, Army Chief As Buhari Panics Over UN Next Move

Buhari panics over UN move to expel Libyan foreign fightersPresident Muhammadu Buhari has raised the alarm that the expulsion of foreign fighters in Libya, in consonance with a UN resolution, may worsen militancy and terrorism in West Africa, the Sahel and Lake Chad region.

Buhari raised the issue at the ongoing ECOWAS summit in Accra.

He said it is important that fighters be disarmed first and insisted that the expulsion must be done in collaboration with with regional stakeholders.

Buhari has always linked the civil war in Libya to the emergence of insurgency in the Sahel region and his country.

”On the security situation in the region, our organisation must note with serious concern, the recent decision by the United Nations and its Resolution to expel all foreign fighters in Libya, without first, ensuring that they are disarmed and that neighbouring countries and the sub-regions were engaged, to put in place modalities for containing or managing the movement of these fighters.

”While this action was aimed at bringing about sustenance of peace in Libya, non-collaboration with regional stakeholders on this critical decision, has now created newer threats to peace, security and stability in the region,” he said.

He further maintained that this could lead to lack of coordinated management of huge humanitarian crisis across the Sahel, North, Central and West Africa, including the Lake Chad region.

He reiterated that these regions faced the clear possibility of instability with the invasion of the foreign fighters that were fully armed.

”It is imperative that ECOWAS leaders, at this Summit, decide how the UN-Sub-regional organisations partnerships should be reviewed to address the dangers that this UN Resolution poses to the region,” he said.

The statement by the Nigerian leader at the Summit also addressed the military takeover in Mali.

”While democracy continues to develop in our sub-region, recent events in Mali are sad reminders that vigilance remains a crucial imperative to protect people’s aspirations to freely choose the form of government they want.

”Pressures are needed to ensure that the transition process in Mali, which is half-way to its conclusion, is not aborted.

”A further slide in Mali could prove catastrophic to the sub-region, considering that about half of that country is unfortunately under the grip of terrorists.”

The Nigerian leader, therefore, appealed to the military leadership in Mali to understand the critical state of their country, which he described as being ”clearly under siege.”

While noting that the principal responsibility of the military must be to protect and guarantee the sovereignty of the West African country, the president cautioned them not to perpetuate acts that would facilitate the destabilisation and destruction of Mali.

”I urge our organization to remain engaged with all stakeholders in Mali through our astute Mediator, former President Goodluck Jonathan, who, I congratulate warmly, for his untiring efforts thus far.

”I encourage him to sustain these efforts to ensure that the transition is completed as scheduled,” he added.

Buhari Tasks MTN To Reduce Data Prices For Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has urged the MTN Group to make available top-of-the-range service to its Nigerian subscribers and at cheaper rates.

The president made the call when he received in audience members of the board of MTN Group, led by its President and Chief Executive Officer, Ralph Mupita, at the State House, Abuja, on Friday.

Buhari said: “I congratulate you on your appointment as the Group President of MTN. I wish you all the best.

“Nigeria is your most lucrative market in Africa, Asia and the Middle East as well as the source of a third of the income of the entire MTN Group.

“As such, we urge you to offer top-of-the-range and affordable services to Nigerians.

“As we seek to make broadband widely available and affordable, we urge MTN to continue to support our efforts by expanding high-quality connectivity to Nigerians in un-served and under-served areas.”

Indigenous content
The president also called on the group to support the implementation of the National Policy for the Promotion of Indigenous Content in the Nigerian telecommunications sector.

“I recently unveiled and launched the National Policy for the Promotion of Indigenous Content in the Nigerian telecommunications sector.

“I call on MTN to support the implementation of this policy and, train and engage more Nigerians in your company.

“In particular, we will like you to continue to support our efforts by improving the quality of service and enabling a downward price review of the cost of data and other services, in view of your large market in Nigeria.

“We also urge you to step up your corporate social responsibility programmes and support research and development that will enhance your services in Nigeria.”

Enabling environment
He assured his visitors that his administration was doing everything possible to make Nigeria investor-friendly by addressing identified challenges.

“We are implementing a number of policies and programmes to ensure that institutions like MTN have a conducive environment for doing business in Nigeria.

“Our massive jump in the Global Ease of Doing Business Ranking is proof that our efforts are yielding results.

“We have identified and addressed the key challenges that affected the growth of the digital economy sector.

“I am happy to note that the right of way charges have now been pegged at a maximum of N145/linear metre.

“I have given directives for the protection of critical national infrastructure and this has addressed the issue of vandalism of such infrastructure.

“Service providers should always appreciate the efforts of government and not undermine it,” he said.

Buhari expressed delight that the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector was doing very well despite the global economic downturn.

He noted that the ICT sector was the fastest growing sector in both the fourth quarter of 2020 and the entire year 2020, based on the report by the National Bureau of Statistics.

“The sector’s 14.70 per cent double-digit growth rate played a principal role in supporting our country to exit the recession, triggered by COVID-19 pandemic.

“The growth rate of the sector exceeded four times the next fastest-growing sector of the fourth quarter of 2020, which had a growth rate of 3.42 per cent. This is truly commendable,” the president said.

Oniduro: Tope Alabi Finally Apologizes (Full Statement)

Popular Nigerian gospel singer, Tope Alabi has finally admitted that she was wrong to have publicly called out a fellow singer Toluwalase Adelegan who sang the hit gospel track known as ‘oniduro mi’.
The song was made more popular by another Nigerian gospel singer, Adeyinka Alaseyori who made and released a remix of the song.
It will be recalled that Tope Alabi had been under fire after a video went viral in which she condemned the lyrics of her colleague in the gospel music industry which made reference to God as ‘Oniduro Mi’, meaning ‘My Guarantor’ in the English language.
It will be recalled that Alabi in the viral video, condemned the word ‘oniduro ‘, noting that God was more than ‘Oniduro’ to her, insisting she would never sing the song again even though she likes it.
According to Alabi, there was a time she wanted to sing the song to exalt God but the Holy Spirit cautioned her against taking such an action.

Her stance on the song had attracted a lot of outrage and condemnation from Nigerians but Evangelist Alabi has now come out to apologize about her earlier statement, acknowledging that she made a mistake by externalizing a personal message.

She added that Evangelist Adelegan who sang the song is her daughter in the ministry and the matter has been settled amicably.

Adelegan, Tope Alabi and Alaseyori

Below is her full statement as obtained from Church Gist:“Let Me Acknowledge That My Mistake Was That I Externalised A Personal Message In Public and I am Awfully Sorry For Doing That”.

Initially, I didn’t want to delve into the controversy over the gospel hit song, “Oniduro,” because I have intervened behind the scenes in concert with other stakeholders in gospel music ministry. However, I discovered that online media would not allow the dust to settle calmly.

I want to state that Tope Alabi, Adeyinka Adesioye a.k.a Alaseyori and Tolu Adelegan are all members of the same family of God and they belong to the same calling – singing ministry.

“Adeyinka is my daughter in ministry. Her Pastor asked me to pray for her because she took after me, which I did wholeheartedly.

Envy who? Never! I love the girl so much.

She can confirm to you, sir, that we relate so well. God has given each of us the grace to go as far as His enablement could carry us. The atmosphere is wide enough for everyone to stretch her wings of gift without disturbing one another.”

“……I’m being bombarded with calls and visits by Pastors since Monday morning till now. As we speak, another group of Pastors are coming in now. I guess it is because of this same issue.

“……I have been inundated with diverse counsel from different quarters. I hardly sleep since this matter started. While I attend to Nigerian fans on phone calls and online chats in the daytime, our people in the Diaspora will engage me throughout the greater part of the night over the same matter.

“…..I’m not a perfect person yet, I’m still a work in progress in the hands of God. I want people to see me as a mere mortal with my own weaknesses, human frailties and as a learner in the limitless knowledge of God.

I am who I am today only by the mercy of God and the support of millions of gospel music lovers. I have no support base elsewhere outside the awesome Nigerians who feel uncomfortable with my statement.

I see the depth of anger as the measure of their love, admiration and solid support for me and for all of us in the singing ministry.

“Let me acknowledge that my mistake was that I externalised a personal message in public; and I’m awfully sorry for doing that. My friends, colleagues and leaders in ministry who criticized me either openly or privately simply feel disappointed because of the love we share. We are too knitted in the Body of Christ to allow anything to divide us. Human factor is part of our life.

“For those who keep quiet but chose to intercede for us on their knees instead, may God honour them all. And for those who defended me even without speaking with me, I can’t appreciate them enough.”

“…… Sister Tolu Adelegan is a woman I hold in high esteem. Adeyinka, like I said earlier, is my daughter in ministry, they are all valuable sisters and associates that nothing can separate us. This is a mere fog, it will fade away in no time.

“For the comic fellows who are already releasing comedy skits over the matter, I burst into laughter (she laughed again) watching some today.

What a creative people we are. Nigerians are awesome minds who will fashion out tension-relieving stuff from every situation.

“…I appreciate them all. The Bible says in Hebrew 12: 14 that we should pursue peace with everybody and holiness, those are the conditions for us to see God. This is the acceptable path for all of us to follow……”

BREAKING: ISWAP Fighters Set Military Base on Fire

Insurgents suspected to be members of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) overran a military formation in the southern part of Borno State on Tuesday and cart away weapons after a fierce gun battle with the troops.
It was learnt that the fighters rode on about 10 utility vehicles to storm the military formation at Kwamdi village, Damboa local government area, on Tuesday evening.

They were said to have burnt down one Ammour Personal Carrier(APC) and a gun truck.

According to a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF), Hamidu Abu, the deadly group targeted soldiers camp but not residents.

He further disclosed that the base was razed down as arms and ammunition were stolen by the invaders.

“They came at about 4 p.m. and due to the sand storms it was difficult for soldiers to repel them. They burnt down the base including APC and four other vehicles.

“I can’t ascertain if there was any causality figure,” Abu said.

A security source confirmed that the base came under attack from gunmen believed to be ISWAP fighters at about 4 pm and it lasted for about an hour and 30 minutes.

The source added that fighters seized the opportunity of the sand storm to penetrate the base.

“Our base at Kwamdi came under attack but we didn’t lose any of our personnel to the attackers, unfortunately the base suffered some damages,” the security source told Daily Trust.

There has not been any official reaction from the Nigerian military.

REVEALED! See The 13- Year- Old Boy Arrested For Killing 2 Bandits With An AK47

There is a drama going on in Katsina State, where police have arrested a 13- year- old boy who killed two bandits and fled afterward.

According to the report surrounding the news, the 13- year- old boy whose name is given as Abdulkarim Mati was taken away from his parents by bandits. The bandits reportedly told him and his parents that he was going to be working for their boss in the forest. His duty was to assist in the rearing of cows for the bandit' s leader named Ardo Nashaware, who resides in Birnin Magaji forest inside Zamfara State.

However, things didn' t go as planned. When they got to the Birnin Magaji forest, they gave the 13- year- old boy an AK47 instead of cows as promised. They began to teach him how to use the assault rifle and other weapons. He was also instructed to look after their kidnapped victims.
The report has it that he ran away from the bandits after he killed two of them for bullying him. He was later found and arrested by the Katsina police command with the alleged AK47 used in the crime.

The police spokesman for the state, Gambo Isah, confirmed the report on Saturday.

" The boy, who demonstrated skills in handling AK- 47, also confessed to have been bullied by some elderly bandits, who provoked him, and as a result, picked an AK- 47 rifle and shot dead two of the elderly bandits, " Isah said.

Meanwhile, the arrest of the 13- year- old boy, Abdulkarim Mati, has been generating some reaction since the news broke out yesterday. The majority of the Nigerian netizens want the 13- year- old boy released immediately and unconditionally.

Some also opined that the boy should even be encouraged and commended for doing the work of the police for them. Also because he is a minor and he was adopted by a pretense that he was going to attend to cows. All those should be enough reason for them to free the poor boy. Some of the reactions are attached to the article for your perusal.

Nigerians Blast Bashir Ahmad For Showing Off His Verified Account On Koo App, With Over 10, 000 Followers

Following the federal government' s recent ban on Twitter, as announced by Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed, there has been the discovery of a new social media site similar to Twitter, to which the majority of Nigerians have already migrated. Koo App is the name of the latest app, which was created by an Indian.
Remember that the Twitter ban was enforced as a consequence of Twitter removing President Muhammadu Buhari' s message. The government was compelled to act because of " the continued use of the forum for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria' s corporate life, " according to Nigeria' s minister of media, who announced the ban.
In response to the Twitter ban, Bashir Ahmad, President Muhammadu Buhari' s special advisor on digital and new media, has joined a large number of other Nigerians on the Koo App social media site. The presidential aide used his verified Facebook account to brag about his newly verified Koo App account, which has over 10, 000 followers.
According to his tweet, he gained tens of thousands of followers in just three (3) days after signing up for the app.

Below are a Few Reactions From Fellow Nigerians
@Elyahya Bichi

" To me, it only shows how irresponsible we the Nigerians are. Imagine a whole SA to the President on " New Media" advertising yet another foreign platform after being shut out by another foreign platform. Instead of doing your duty as a capable good citizen to create a local brand and promote it while regulating the foreign platforms on our internet space.

SAD! "
@Lawan Goni Bashir

" Those signing up on Koo should have done a bit of research. They would have discovered that Koo is a social media platform notorious for spreading hatred against Muslims— who are a maligned minority in India. On Koo, Hindu supremacism is promoted. Many of the leading Indian politicians of the ruling BJP use the platform to promote hatred against Muslims. Koo allows and tacitly encourages hatred against Muslims. It is a social media platform on which Muslims are called ' jihadi dogs. ' Koo has been the favorite platform of BJP extremists' advocacy of hatred, particularly targeting India' s minority Muslims. Avoid June 12 protests, US advises citizens in Nigeria

The United States Mission to Nigeria has advised its citizens in the country to avoid the June 12, 2021 protests which will take place on Saturday in several parts of the country.

The US said this in an advisory on Friday titled, ‘Demonstration Alert: US Mission Nigeria (June 11, 2021) – Nationwide Protests on Democracy Day.’

It said it is likely that the protests will take place at the Unity Fountain, Abuja; and Lekki tollgate plaza and Gani Fawehinmi Park in Lagos.

The embassy advised American citizens to keep a low profile and avoid the areas where the protests will hold.

The advisory read in part, “Several groups have announced their intentions to protest nationwide on June 12, Democracy Day. Police presence and response can be expected nationwide, including in Abuja where government events are scheduled to celebrate the national holiday and in Lagos where simultaneous protests are planned.

“The likely locations for the protests in Abuja will be at Unity Fountain (Hilton Hotel area), Wuse, Berger Roundabout, Aguiyi Ironsi Way, Airport Road, and British Circle. Open Grazing: Buhari Overrules Southern Governors Over Ban, Rubbishes Southwest Presidency Claim

According to President Mohammadu Buhari’s stance on the subject, the president and governors of southern states who just proclaimed the restriction of open grazing in their states may be heading for a major fight.

President Buhari stated his views on the Governor’s prohibition on open grazing during an exclusive interview on Arise Television on Thursday morning, saying that the nation will preserve open grazing, but that cows will be restricted to existing grazing routes.

The president, who stated that when he leaves office, he will return to his cows to keep himself occupied, stated that he had sought the gazette on grazing routes, which he claimed was operational previously, for effective execution.

Condemning the use of AK47 by headsmen, Buhari said the only weapon traditional herders carried aside their rod, was cutlass, which they use to cut obstructing woods and bushes while rearing their animals, insisting that, carrying guns by herders was not normal.

Asked exactly where his party had zoned the presidency in 2023 within the Southern part of the country, President Buhari said that would be decided by the party.

According to him, the party has adopted a bottom top system. This he said, will give members a sense of belonging, as the system would enable them have a say in where the Presidency is not eventually zoned to.

Defending the country’s decision to construct roads and railway lines to neighboring Niger Republic, Buhari said it was borne out of the fact that the country must maintain good relation with her neighbours.

Also, he said since Niger Republic now has crude oil, the most sensible thing to do is to make it easier for them to transport their product through Nigeria ports, instead of yielding that advantage to Benin Republic. This he opined, will be economically beneficial to Nigeria.

‘They Got Nothing On Me’— Hushpuppi’s Friend Who Was Arrested With Him Rejoices As He Regains His Freedom

Pac, one of the persons who was also arrested in connection with billionaire socialite, Hushpuppi fraud case last year, has regained his freedom after spending over six months behind bars.

You recall that in June 2020, Hushpuppi was picked by the FBI and Interpol together with Dubai Police in Dubai for alleged fraud, money laundering and other criminal activities and he has since been in detention whilst being tried at a court in California.

However, fortunately for Pac, it seems he has been found innocent of the crimes associated with him and has been set free by the courts in the US and after gaining his freedom he took to social media to make her first appearance with a lengthy post narrating his ordeal and the whole experience living behind bars for six months.

He revealed that Hushpuppi is still in detention and it is his prayer he gets lucky like him so he can get out and he expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all those who supported him during these hard times of his life

Sharing photos of himself posed by an exotic car, he wrote;

It is not funny how a dramatic turn of event can change everything forever. What seemed a quest for greener pastures turned out to be the darkest 6mths of my life. The pains of incarceration, the groans of solitude, the agonies of torture, my life that is lived with hope and great expectations was crumbling before me.

A year ago today, I, Rahman(Hushpuppi) and some other friends got arrested in Dubai, it was a week to my birthday, I thought the end has come. How am I supposed to make it out of these? I came to Dubai for opportunities, but here I am, behind guarded bars. The experience was not palatable, I wouldn’t wish it on an enemy. Miraculously they got nothing on me. Freedom is good, but the experience remains indelible as I can’t free my thoughts and minds from the grips of confinements. I still have nightmares. For all it is worth, I am happy to walk the street and take-in the air as a free man.

I am thankful for life and for the grace to look forward to my next birthday as a celebration of life and not behind bars counting down days with possibilities of worst outcomes. Life has not been the same since, more so, with my best friend and benefactor(Hushpuppi) still in detention. I hope he gets lucky too. I hope he returns back to his friends and families in one healthy piece.

I want to thank everyone that stood by me during these trying times. I want to say thank you to obakaakaki for the ceaseless love and affection. Words can’t capture all that Biola Brain has done, @_standing9 thanks for the show of love.

Social Media service provider platforms robbing Nigeria of taxes – FG

By Bolaji Ogundele, Abuja
Twitter and other social media service providers, also known as over-the-top (OTT) media service providers, had been cheating Nigeria of due taxes, the federal government has alleged.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, disclosed this to State House Correspondents after the week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC), held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He insisted that the microblogging platform was suspended because it provided an avenue for people that are threatening the corporate existence of Nigeria.

He, however, said the federal government had directed that all OTT service providers that wish to continue operating in Nigeria must be registered as Nigerian companies.

He also disclosed that investigations had revealed that the Founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, was one of the funders of the #ENDSARS protest in Nigeria in 2020.

Asked to react to the rejection of the ban on Twitter by the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives, the Minister said they were entitled to their opinion.

He said freedom of speech has not been stifled by the suspension of Twitter as he maintained that Nigerians can still use other platforms such as Facebook and Instagram.

He also denied that the suspension is not effective arguing that Twitter is losing money as a result of the action.

EXPOSED: N464m On Private Vehicles, N6m As Medical Allowance - FG To Spend N700m To Force 29 Generals Out Of Service

The Nigerian government is on course to splurge a whopping N700 million to force 29 Major-Generals and Brigadier-Generals to retirement, according to sources at the Defence Headquarters.

Reports of the forceful retirement immediately started to swirl in the Nigerian media after President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointment of Major-General Farouk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff after the death of Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru in a plane crash on May 21, 2021.

It is a long-standing military tradition that all the major-generals who are senior to Yahaya will be retired.

Some of the 29 military officers are reportedly being forced out because they are of Course 35 and Course 36 and the new army chief, is of the Course 37 set.

But an exclusive published by SaharaReporters noted that the 29 Generals’ retirement benefits would cost the federal government huge sums if the 2017 Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service of the Officers and men of the Armed Forces are anything to go by.

The report said all 29 Major-Generals “are entitled to a brand new Peugeot 508 car, one cook, two residential guards, one service orderly and one service driver.”

They are also entitled to medical allowances to the tune of $15,000 annually.
It was also reported that 29 Major-Generals and Brigadier-Generals have already gone on a terminal leave which ends on June 30 ahead of their retirement.

“The brand new vehicles for the exiting generals will cost N464 million while the other logistics and employment of personnel for them will cost N200 million in total. The money will come from extra-budgetary allocations to the armed forces,” a source at the military Headquarters in Abuja was quoted as saying.

He added, “Some of them are lobbying but the rule is the rule. Generals in Course 36 have to be retired forcefully, since Major-General Yahaya is of the 37th Regular Course.”

According to a document obtained by SaharaReporters, Seniority Roll Nigerian Army Officers 2021 (Revised), the President bypassed no fewer than 24 top senior Nigerian Army officers to appoint Yahaya as the COAS.

Yahaya’s appointment prompted many to accuse President Buhari of ethnic and religious sentiments, saying most of officers in line of seniority after Attahiru’s death are from the South-West, South-East or Christians.

Closely following Attahiru are; “Maj Generals J.O Olawumi from Ekiti, J.O Akomolafe from Kwara, C.O. Ude from Enugu, J. Oyefesobi from Ogun, M.O Uzoh from Abia, C.C. Okonkwo from Imo, M.S.A Aliyu from Zamfara, U.M Muhammed from Niger and B.M Shafa from Ogun.”

Others are; “N.E. Angbazo from Nasarawa, Y.P. Auta from Kebbi, A.S. Maikobi from Bauchi, B. Ahanotu from Anambra, S.A. Yaro from Bauchi, J. Sarham from Kano, H.E. Ayamasaowei from Bayelsa, O.F. Azinta from Enugu, B.A Akinroluyo from Ondo, KAY Isiyaku from Niger, AT Haman from Borno, A.M. Aliyu from Gombe, H. P. Z. Vintekaba from Taraba, K.O. The Kadiri from Lagos, and IM Yusuf from Yobe.”

The 55-year-old new army chief was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps on September 22, 1990.
The online news platform reported that after Buhari’s appointment of the present crop of service chiefs in January, “at least 20 generals from the three services who were members of courses 34 and 35 were retired to pave way for them.”

A separate report by TheCable however, said the military may not be retiring the 29 major-generals at the end of their ongoing one-month leave.

According to the report, “major-generals will undertake a one-year course in any local institution of their choice after the conclusion of the leave.”

TheCable citing sources in the military noted that “after they have completed the course, new roles may be created for them at the defence headquarters, headed by Lucky Onyenuchea Irabor, a full-star general and chief of defence staff.”

SCOOPER recalls how the defence headquarters had recently denied the reports of mass retirement in the Nigerian army due to Yahaya’s appointment.

The military made this known in a statement by Bernard Onyeuko, the DHQ spokesperson.

Onyeuko who addressed reporters in Abuja said, “At this point, you are all aware of the appointment of the new chief of army staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya.”
“This has stirred up a lot of rumours in the media about mass retirements in the military.

“I wish to use this medium to dispel such unfounded rumours as retirement is only on a voluntary basis for senior officers who desire to do so.

“At this point, no retirements have been authorised by the military high command.”

“Please, don’t take laws into your hands. I urge all the families that lost their loved ones to this attack, because sometimes, emotion can really be high. Please, give us the opportunity to resolve this and make this place better for you.
“You must have seen the Light-up project we embarked on. We are doing it for us to be able to see everywhere, whether it is day or night. Well, there are people who don’t want good for our state and country at large, but I believe that God will show us mercy.
“Once again, I beg of you; give us the opportunity to come back and rebuild things and put a more solid architecture such that you will be able to go to farms and do whatever you want to do without fear. BREAKING: “Reverse Twitter Ban Immediately” – US warns Nigerian Government

The United States government has warned the Nigerian Government to immediately reverse its ban on Twitter adding that it was tantamount to opposing free speech.

Samantha Power, an administrator of the United States Agency for International Development, made this known in a statement on Wednesday. She revealed that Twitter has over 40 million users in Nigeria adding that the directive must be reversed immediately.

“There are nearly 40 M Twitter users in #Nigeria, and the country is home to Africa’s largest tech hub.”

“This suspension is nothing more than state-sanctioned denial of free speech and should be reversed immediately.”

The US mission in Nigeria has also issued an earlier statement via its Facebook page pointing out that the ban was a encroachment to the Peoples right to Freedom.

“Nigeria’s constitution provides for freedom of expression. The Government’s recent #Twitterban undermines Nigerians’ ability to exercise this fundamental freedom and sends a poor message to its citizens, investors and businesses.”
“Banning social media and curbing every citizen’s ability to seek, receive, and impart information undermines fundamental freedoms. As President Biden has stated, our need for individual expression, open public conversation, and accountability has never been greater. The path to a more secure Nigeria lies in more, not less communication, alongside concerted efforts toward unity, peace, and prosperity.”
